Incredible or Droid X?

Hi,

I've been checking out Phonescoop for years (since the days of the VX6100) for the latest news and reviews but this is the first time I've posted.

My contract ended in May (switching from a family plan to a single plan--the secondary line wants to go to pre-paid) and it's time to replace my Curve. I've been looking at the Incredible and the Droid X.

If I act by June 30th, I can essentially get the Incredible for free:

$100 NE2
$100 MIR
$50 off smartphone sale for the 1 year anniversary of Verizon Kiosks being inside PC Richards (same set up as Circuit City had--corporate kiosk inside the store)
$50 10 year anniversary promotion that Verizon text & mailed to me

Is the Droid X that much of an upgrade over the Incredible t...

Go with the Moto Droid X. The Incredible is a piece of crap, like all of HTC's products. The earpiece sound quality on the Incredible sucks. It sounds muffled, and you cannot hear any "s" sounds. For example, the word "soap" would sound like "oap" and the word "that's" would sound like "that." I have had several friends that have tried swapping out this phone many times for another identical model, only to find the same earpiece sound issues. They ended up getting a Motorola Droid or an LG Ally, and have had no further problems.

I must disagree with your "all of HTC products are pieces of crap" comments. I've had several HTC products, including my now current phone, the Eris, and I am completely pleased, as I was with previous products. No troubles at all with phone reception, clarity, earpiece, speakerphone, etc. Can't speak to the Incredible, but really, that comment is pure conjecture.

I have the incredible and have absolutely no issues with the sound quality. I also disagree about HTC. They make awesome smartphones.

check the fine print, i think that the 10 yr promotion, the NE2 AND the 1 yr anniversary can't be used with each other. I believe in the fine print it says that those cannot be combined with any other offer. That brings the prices much closer. From there, go with the droidx.

Is would definately check the fine print as well. Not likely you will get all the combined discounts. The private sale is for purchases before the end of the month and the Incredible is likely out of stock there. The only place I have seen the private sale discount honored is online with pre-order. Stores likely won't honor since the sale won't occur until the product arrives mid-July (big maybe there too).

I've checked the fine print on both the promotional flyer the Veirzon Kiosk had for their 1 year anniversary sale and the mailer I recevied for the Private Sales Event and neither one mentions they couldn't be combined with any other offers. In fact, the Private Sales Event points out that savings on combining the NE2 with the additonal private sales event savings.

When I spoke to the Verizon Rep at the kiosk yesterday, he made it sound like I could combine them all. I'll head back there before the 30th and see if they can. If so, I may go with the Incredible. If they can't do all three, I may just hold off for the X.

Thanks for you help so far.

Stores around here haven't had any in stock since May, and that goes for Corporate and Retailers a like.

The stores here in NJ are all back ordered too. The sales rep at the kiosk made it sound like I could order the Incredible and still take advantage of all the offers and just activate the phone when it arrives. Today's the last day so I'll head back to the kiosk at PC Richard's and find out.

If they can truly honor both the private sales event and their 1 year anniversary offer, I'll probably order the Incredible because it will essentially be for free (once the MIR is done). If they can't I'll just hold out a little longer and see what the X is like.

Good luck with that one.

Something tells me you won't get all the discounts.

Fortunately, luck was with me. Just got back from the kiosk inside PC Richards and they honored both sales promotions without me even prompting them. The Incredible is on order and all I had to pay was $100 which I'll get back when the phone comes and I send in the MIR.

When I asked, they said that normally promotions can't be combined butthe 1yr anniversary sales was a special promo for the Verizon's kiosks in the PC Richards stores and not available at the big corporate stores so the promos could be combined.

Just have to wait till the back orders start shipping but I believe it'll be worth the wait.

All these advances are coming out so fast, it's making my head spin. Still have to wait a few weeks for the phone to arrive but I can't wait. The hour glass of death on my Curve's browser is finally getting to me.

Thanks for the head's up. I'll do my best to be patient. Just have to squeeze another month or so out of the Curve. In the meantime, I'll research online as much as I can on how to optimize the phone to get as much out of the battery as possible.

Your not open to getting a Motorola Droid? I've had my Moto Droid for just over 3 months and am happy with mine.

It's not that I'm wasn't open to the Droid. A friend at work has one and let me play around with it. It's definitely a great phone but I wasn't crazy about the physical keyboard.

I've never had a touch screen phone before so I wondered if I could make the transition from the physical to the touch keyboard but after trying out the Incredible a few times in a couple of different stores, I got used to the touch pad pretty quick. After that the Droid seemed kind of bulky to me.

I can wait for the Incredible to arrive. It'll be like the anticipation for Birthday/Christmas.

Thanks Menno. I do have Opera on the Curve and I switch back and forth between the browsers depending on how "difficult" the track ball is being. Last couple of weeks, it's getting more and more difficult to move the track ball; especially when moving the arrow around on Opera to click on the different sections I want to enlarge. Even with Opera though, I'm getting the hour glass of death at times.

Why is everyone so anxious to get a phone which has sound quality issues that might not be fixed? Can you say "iPhone fiasco" on a different network??

Not sure.. I have a friend who had a droid, and then switched to an incredible and insists the call quality is better, no matter how many times we give him a recording of his own voice.

I made a couple of test calls from one of the display models in the store and I didn't hear any problems but I'll continue to test while I wait for mine to arrive and see if I can hear the issues you're mentioning.
