My take on verizon's data charges!

I don't care I have Sprint! 🤣

But seriously you people are getting riped off! I think it's unfair that verizon is forcing data on dumb phones. The browsers on dumb phones are not worth paying data on...even the full html browser are grossly inferior to a regular smart phone. I can see if they made the data unlimited but 25MB C'mon this is verizon just bending people over. T-Mobile is not doing this. AT&T even gives you the option of just unlimited txt. They don't say you have to pick this this CRAP phone if you don't want data. They allow you CHOICE...and Sprint is certainly not doing this.

My plan with Sprint 2 BlackBerry Tour 9630 Smartphone costing me 109.99 including texting, TV, Nav etc etc.

😳 😲
What?? Verizon taking people to the cleaners?? Thats unheard of!!!

Hahahaha just another day in the land of Verizon.
I do feel sorry for Verizon customers that are just stubborn. Hey those nice commercials with the bright red maps. Thanks for showing where Sprint customers may also have coverage since Verizon and Sprint have romaing agreements with one another. Shhhhhhh dont tell anyone that now.

The problem with Sprint, at least here in San Diego, is the poor coverage. I know everyone likes to rag on them for this but I swear at least here it's true. I know of 4 people who had Sprint and they all bailed for others (some went to ATT, poor schmucks, got the iPhone and still hate the service; go figure). At least here, Vz is king when it comes to reception. But I tellz ya, that Supersonic is going to be hard to resist, at least for me.

Is that Sprint, or Nextel they are using? Sprint and Verizon roam indefinately off of each other's networks, there is nowhere one has coverage that the other doesn't. Nextel phones, on the other hand, doesn't roam or share with any other network; this could have been the problem.

Where on earth did you come up with that one? That makes absolutely no common sense, let alone business sense. The cost alone for one carrier to roam indefinitely off of another would be astronomical.

Exactly! I am a HUGE Sprint cheerleader but the idea that Sprint can roam off Verizon whenever wherever is silly. Even if the roaming agreement included an area (ex: San Diego) there would have to be NO coverage before a Sprint phone went into roam BECAUSE it costs Sprint money! Sprint used to sell phones that their customers could use to force roam. No more of that either. If Sprint wanted to build towers into the areas where they have no coverage, I am told (by AJ) that they have the licenses to do so. Apparently those who are not covered do not NEED to be covered. Just like AT&T and their 3G which covers 75% of the population. If you're not in that coverage...TOUGH!

That does not even sound right if you dont have coverage tough. Why settle for not having it when u can have it. whats is the big deal over data charges the way the world is going you will need internet on your phones and who ever called them dumb phones poo on you. the ones that require data solutions are 3g multi meadia phones. And for everyone if you spend less time crying on phones scoop about verizon. you would have more time to sell phones for your carrier than gripe about verizon all the time 😲

besides that any mobile anytime doesn't work while roaming, and their roaming is almost exclusively voice (save old alltel agreements.

I don't ever recall a time where I've roamed. I think it is an outrage that verizon is charging 25 MB for 10.OO dollars. Where before you could be on a connect plan and have unlimited data, or the Vcast with data! Now all of a sudden they pull this crap, just to screw the customer. It's not like verizon is the data centric carrier, hell even sprint has a higher data ARPU and they lost 5 million customers. And ATT with their iphone hogs are not telling their dumb phone users bend over you can only use 25 MB! Yes business is business and life is life, but C'mon verizon did not have to do this!

I think the new data charge is an outrage as well.. but I can tell you where I live, 80% of the coverage is roaming

Then sprint is not for you. My parents are on verizon right now I encouraged them to go there for good solid voice and basic phones. My dad has the LG 8360 thank God he got it before all this junk! But come renew time my 80 year old father doesn't need to be paying extra for nothing. These threads will probably be just like all the others, people will bitch for awhile then it will all blow over.

I can assure you that Verizon chooses when and where Sprint users have access to Verizon signals, in addition to Sprint choosing when and where they need to fill in the gaps.

Being able to "roam on Verizon" doesn't necessarily mean you get Verizon's entire network. It would cost Sprint more money than they make to do this.

People want it both ways. If there were no Data plans, people with enV Touch phones (for example) would use data a la carte and complain that they are being charged 1.99/MB. Why in the world would you get a 3G Multimedia device and not use the data? Now people complain of a minimum $10 Data charge. If you don't wanna pay for data, get a Samsung Knack!
