Insurance Question???

punisherbv

Hey my friend was just trying to switch their phone a few weeks ago and when they tried doing it over the phone with that "3" button. They get the message of "if switching phones, the insurance may be voided off" did anyone else get this too? Why is Verizon doing this??

Because they cannot verify the condition of the new phone and Asurion won't cover used phones.

Ok, but how many people switch to an older phone? I'm sure in cases of loss or theft, that is the case, but my son switched from an almost 2 yr old Dare to his sister's 6 mo. old Env Touch and the insurance was dropped. (Both purchased new from Verizon, not ebay). Surely the insurance conmpanies with all their resources and ability to track fraud, etc., can figure out the Env Touch is newer. I love how insurance always benefits the insurer. 😲

Its not really the question of newer/older phones.

Its the fact that the companies can't verify what type of condition the phone is in. They don't know if the enV Touch has a cracked screen, is water damaged, charging port is in bad shape etc.

Lets say that the asurion didn't have this policy. What would stop people from abusing the system? You could collect a horde of broken phones, activate them on a line that did have insurance and immediately place an insurance claim. All of the sudden you have a horde of CLNR phones instead of broken phones that you could sell on ebay.

But yourself in the shoes of the business for once instead of the consumer. If you owned the insurance company would YOU insure phones that you couldn't v...

Ok, folks, I expected to have some backlash, here, but seriously, I'm familiar with the insurance industry having previously worked in it for 20+ years. And please, when I buy a new car, I call my agent, tell him the make, model, year, and nobody actually LOOKS at the car. Insurance companies are not in business to lose money and when they do, they start looking for fraud like crazy. This is a PHONE and the value isn't all that much to begin with. Seriously. Haha. Don't start yelling back at me, I'm just throwing my two cents out there for the hell of it.

Has anybody ever noticed that when somebody asks a question on a forum their answer is always something like

"i'm an expert on blah, blah, blah, but i was asking an asinine question to see what you guys thought. Don't flame me cause i know what i'm talking about."

Seriously dude, if phone insurance companies insured anything other than new phones people would exploit the system. Simple as that

When I worked in tech the worse offenders were VZW employees. They thought they were so slick. I would trace the ESN and put a BOLD not on the account explaining what they were attempting to do.

I'm hardly an expert, I don't believe I used that word. I also hardly think I'm "exploiting" the "system." I just wanted a valid reason why they would cancel the insurance. You guys were eloquent in your responses. Thank you. And quite frankly, it's apparent Epik is one of the few people here who really knows what's going on. I went to Verizon today with my son so they could look at his now malfunctioning EnvTouch. I asked whether or not they had, in fact dropped the insurance on that phone. They said no, they had not. They said "why would they? the EnvTouch is newer than the Dare, and the Dare is not even sold any more." I said, well, I've been told that is not the case, and i just want to make sure I'm not making the insurance payment ever...

Me. 🙂

As an attentive employee, I'm supposed to remove insurance whenever a customer-provided phone is activated on a number that has had insurance. The exception to this process is when the phone is provided from the exact same account, at which time I can move the insurance over as long as the phone had insurance on the other line on the account. I will need to remark the mess out of this. Asurion knows the ESN that's insured, so there will be a history of it being covered on the same account.

Now, if the phone came from another account, I'm supposed to take it off. Does that mean I do it each and every time? No. In fact, I think I might have done it twice in sev...

I don't know why people don't just put that six dollars aside in the first place. Still, you CANNOT be serious. Her Envy is STILL a used phone. They only insure new handsets.

REally I could care less and I wasn't bitching. I was just adding commentary for amusement's sake. I hate insurance. To me, it's the biggest legal consumer fraud in the nation. Now let's start that topic. Haha. No, let's not! 😎

I'm sorry. No you did not. But if you read my post above, you'll see why I'm confused. On the phone, they told me the insurance would be dropped. In the store today they told me it has not been dropped and "why would it? The env touch is a newer phone. We don't even sell the Dare any more." Ok. Whatever. Maybe I have insurance. Maybe I don't. Maybe someone knows. I'm guessing they don't. 😕

It depends upon the rep. If they do their homework...you could be getting a DARE. Asurion has plenty of replacement DARE's in their warehouse and if that is the phone they insured...

This is a blanket statement so they can say "we told you so" when Asurion chooses not to cover non-brand new equipment. In most cases, this statement alone doesn't mean the feature is dropped. It takes an audit by a real person to determine if the insurance should be dropped.

Ok, so embellish on your statement a little. Verizon told me the insurance wasn't dropped on my EnvTouch. Do they really know that for sure? I don't really care, except for the fact that I don't want to be paying $6 a month to find out if my son loses or drops the phone, I call Asurion and they say I have no insurance.

Insurance is a feature on your account, just like text messaging, caller ID, voicemail, etc. If they see it on there, it's on there.

If you log on to your My Verizon account you should see insurance listed under the My Services tab, under the My Plan section (to the left), filed under the Additional Features area. It should be listed as "TEC" or "WPP."

You should also see it listed under your bill with your price plan for that line.

See my other post about this, too.

Everyone,

When you do an ESN change to CPE (customer provided equipment) the insurance WILL carry over the activated device. I did not believe this for the longest time until I looked it up within the past 2 weeks.

Those of you that have access to Infoman, look up ESN Changes with Insurance. The information is there.
