Just bought a never-opened LG 8300 on eBay.

I've had some real frustrations with Verizon phones since my trusty LG VX8300 died sometime last year. First, I got the early-release version of the Casio Turd or or GzOne or whatever that horrific device was labeled. Sounded like I was talking through an inch of plastic wrap, and the battery was craptastic.

Next, I went with the Motorolla W755 and loathed that one, too. Lag whenever you pressed buttons, and right out of the box its battery life was worse than my old 8300's at two years. Got roped into buying the extended battery for the Verizon gouging price of $59.99 (panicked with a pregnant wife at the time). Then a month later ... accidentally ran over it with my car.

Not due for a NE2 til sometime late 2010, so I had my wife's ol...

The 8300 is probably the second best phone I ever owned. Congrats. If you don't like full retail pricing from Verizon...buy directly from the manufacturer.

"I wouldn't be caught dead with that phone."

You might as well have been speaking Mandarin to me right there, because I don't care one whit about consumerist, branded cache. I have a six-month-old son and a busy schedule and want a phone that works. This was the most functional and durable phone I ever owned. Period.

And if you read my post, you'd realize I'm not up for NE2 til late next year, and certainly am not stupid enough to pay the (artificial) full price for one of these things.

So a $49.99 fix from eBay until I do get an upgrade to a newer phone I like seemed perfect.

The 8300 is so cheap on ebay because that's the current market price, or in layman's terms, that's the most someone's willing to pay for it.

Most Telcos don't mark the retail prices up that much from what they get from the manufacturer. If any part of the price is "artificial", then it's primarily coming from the manufacturer.

Also, since the GzOne was hands-down the worst cellphone I've ever owned (for the brief time I did before sending it back), I'm not going that route again.

The Barrage, maybe. But I'll worry about this when my NE2 comes up again.

🤣 my kids use my old one as a toy... it looks brand new I only used it for 2months. I had some guy working on my water heater and he saw it on the table and said "look we have the same phone," I didn't have the heart to tell him it was my kid's toy...

not dogging on the phone... one of the best Verizon phones ever made IMO... I also have a Like new Moto 815 in a box...also a great phone... I was to lazy to ebay them now they are worth so little I will just keep them for friends and family for backups

I would rank the 8300 as better than the E815 due to the charging port on the E815 although the E815 had great RF.
