Motorola or LG

Ok, so my grandfather is taking his Nokia 6205 back (I told him he wouldn't like it). He is going to get a LG or Motorola.

He is looking at the LG Chocolate, LG VX8360,and the Motorola W755.

Yes, I am a CSR at Verizon Wireless, but I want to have a poll about which phone he should choose. He want's me to help him.

He lives in a area where there is little service, so something that picks up good service and has good call quality.

They had AT&T until Verizon bought Alltel. AT&T picked up nothing, even outside AT&T wouldn't pick up. T-Mobile and Sprint don't pick up out there as well.

Tell me the pro's and con's you know of about any of the phones. I do know some, but I want information from the customer or person who has or do...

Both are pretty simular as far as design goes. If it were me deciding between those two phones, I would pick the motorola W755

The 755 would probably pick up a slightly better reception but it can be so negligible it really not worth passing up the reliability of the LG 8360!

You can't go wrong with any the VZW LG 8000 series, of course I am bias to them ever since my TM 510

The 8300 was the best. The 8100 was cool except that customers tended to yank out the charging port because they were too lazy to push in the side contacts. My mom had one for three years and no issues. The 8360 just feels cheap. Not as bad as the 8350 but not on par with the 8560 by any means.

LG's seem to do better on VZW's network then Moto's.

I STRONGLY disagree with that statement. It has been my experience in my years with Verizon that Motorolas do much better at getting reception and with call quality than the LGs. In fact, I live in an area with sketchy reception and I cannot even get a LG to connect in my house....

Well that maybe your experience in your area. But mine has been the opposite.
Plus the reviews don't lie, I randomly picked 5 phones, even gave Moto the benefit of the dought.

I gotta agree with Crans here...I've been with VZ since 1994 (Bell Atlantic Mobile then) and don't understand Verizon's fascination with LG. For call quality, clarity, reception, RF, my experience with Moto wins. Now they do their lockup dance occasionally, but I feel they trump LG with call quality. My husband has an 8300, my son the Dare and my daughter the EnvTouch, so I'm not unfamiliar with LG here. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Still, you guys can't explain why the majority of the reviews of the VZW LG's are higher than the Moto's offered by VZW? ๐Ÿคจ
And as the OP said

He is looking at the LG Chocolate, LG VX8360,and the Motorola W755.

I think either LG would do better than the W755.

The only Motorolas that had a stronger RF for sure were the E815 and the V710. We had customers refuse to get rid of them because no other phone would work in their admitted rural area. But that charging port... Whew!

Of those 3 phones, the 8360 is the strongest of the bunch. It will give them the best reception, call quality, and ease of use.

Depending on market, the moto might get better reception, but I highly doubt it.

The W755 has an issue with performing DMU resets that disqualifies it out of hand though. Maybe they will eventually resolve it through software but the damage is done in my mind. Now phones like the Voyager and Dare have seriously dented LGs once spotless reputation in my eyes but not so much as to make me go with a Motorola again. For the record, I was an early adoptor of the Silver Q and the V710. Yeah, a glutton for punishment. I had 10 Silver Q FRUs (they were still Frus back then) before some genuis in tech support finally sent me a black one and I still have it (just not active anymore).

While durable, the W755 is nothing to write home about. Slow. Not especially compelling. Not especially good call quality.

It works. It's cheap. Expect to replace the battery.

That's probably a better phone than the W755. Although I think they probably still have the floppy rubber plug concept happening on that phone too.

Which is the best motorola on Verizon right now? I keep hearing people saying not this not that, but all he wants it for is to make and recieve calls. Something that will work in a area that service is not very great. No need to fight.

Well if you are going to limit it to Motorolas I guess the W755 by default. The DMU thing should not matter if all he wants to do is make and receive calls.

If signal strength is the most important get a MOTO

If reliability and build quality is the most important get an LG, or if UI and Design is up on your list

At my house LG, Cuts out
Moto works fine
Blackberry works fine
Samsung doesn't work at all

I still choose to carry a LG because I don't like any of the Motos and the Rival is cheap kids phone IMO

W755 is trash! There is a reason they gave those to Unicel customers following the conversion. How many of those have I exchanged for CLNRs? The Chocolate 3 is the one hands down. I am not crazy about the 8360 either.
