Blackberry Questions

Hi. I am new to this and just had a couple of questions. I am looking to get the Curve or Pearl. I currently have the Dare and am just not that happy with it. Customer service told me they would let me switch.

Which would you reccomend? I am leaning towards the Pearl. My questions are...

1. Does it send and receive video messages? I don't want them coming through e mail, would rather come straight through as txt.

2. Does both the pearl and curve have blackberry messenger?

Any other information/suggestions you have would be great. Thanks! 😁

They both have messenger. I'll have to check on the video capability, but if they are capable of sending them it will come through as an MMS not an email.

Any major differences between the pearl and curve besides the keypad?

nope. The Pearl has 56Mb flash mem instead of the curve's 96MB, but that's workable. I prefer the Pearl and I've used both.

Both have EVDO 3G data. 2.0 Cam and Video. Picture and Video Messaging (MMS) which does not need to be sent as email. They both do have BlackBerry Messenger, BlackBerry Maps, Google Maps (download for free). You can download apps and much more. Bluetooth pictures, videos, music, ect.

The diffrence is the QWERTY pad on the Curve. The Pearl has short type QWERTY (QW ER TY).

In addition to what Menno and Cellphonejocky have said, I would add one thing.

Memory.

You really should have a memory card in the Pearl, where the Curve would probably be fine without.

The Pearl has a memory-saving feature written into its software that will manage memory function for you. If you take pictures and videos, especially, you'll want to buy a 2GB or better memory card. When the phone runs out of internal memory, it will start deleting your call logs and messaging in-boxes without asking for your approval.

Phones, like computers, need available memory to think - to process functions, run programs, move data, etc. When the Pearl's memory gets low, it starts finding memory it can free up to function properly. A memo...

DO NOT GET THE PEARL!!!

Its over a year and half old on verizon, and its about to be replaced by the pearl flip in a month. The curve is due for a replacement as well, but its the star of verizons current berry lineup.

Unless you're a nut about the size of your phone, get the curve, its a MUCH better device and you will be glad you went that route.

Totally agree with CWCANTY!. The Pearl I had to small of a screen. It only has sure type not a full qwerty keyboard.

I have the Curve now and I even tried the Storm and that was a sure loser in my book.

The Curve is nice try it out. You should like it. Or wait until May and get a niagra if it comes out than.

So you have the Dare and Verizon is going to switch you out to your choice of the Pearl or Curve and you don't have to pay any difference in price? If that is the case then the Curve is the obvious choice (it costs more). Hell, they are giving the Pearl away with a two year contract at verizonwireless.com Plus, the Curve is just plain better.

I disagree with the many here that don't like the Pearl. While I agree with the mem problems, those can be adjusted (you just need to see someone who works at vzw and knows how to fix it) things like adjusting your messages to keep forever and manually deleting them as you go along.

In short, the pearl's memory isn't great - but it is fixable. The keyboard makes up for it to me though. I can type three times as fast with the SureType and PredictiveText (they're not the same, despite popular belief) than I can with the Curve. The keys on the Curve are too small for my big fingers, and although the Pearl is a smaller phone, because the letters are 2 to a key instead of one, the keys are slightly larger. Also, there are no spaces in between....

I agree with you, too. Although I had the Pearl for only 5 days, I returned it because I couldn't stand the constant buzzing of email, not the phone itself (and I don't need it for my job). I text a lot and I really liked Suretype. A main reason I chose the Centro (other than I only check email when I want to, if I want to) is the smaller size. I don't care for the calculator-sized phones AT ALL.
