I've tried just about everything...

...trying to be loyal to Verizon for the last 6 months. I know I'm in the minority, but everywhere I've been (in Virginia and mostly Southern California) I've gotten the worst service possible with dropped calls or no service at all. I've been on the phone with CS or in Verizon stores more than I'd like to admit over the past few months trying to figure out what's what. And yes, I'm an avid user of *228 option 2.

Today, when I dropped 6+ calls within 10 minutes while my phone indicated 4 bars of service before I placed/answered the call, I about threw my phone on the ground in frustration. I've never considered leaving Verizon, but am doing so now because I'm just done period. I'm just not sure where to go or what carrier to switch to.

Wow. Did anyone in customer care submit a trouble ticket on this? It almost sounds like an authentication problem with your mobile number, or an inconsistent MDN situation. Is you number an original Verizon number, or ported in?

Based on the fact that they'd let you out of the contract I assume they've checked your drop call rates. Any rep can go into the system and see your dropped calls, lost calls (when the other phone drops), incomplete calls, etc. I would assume that they did, and if they did they would have filed a ticket. I've seen a few customers with consistently dropped calls which were fixed by the switch technician changing your MDN number (it's a like a shadow mobile number that authenticates you in the network).

Thanks. I'll look into my MDN number next time I need to speak to Verizon.

Any suggestions on joining another carrier? I would assume ATT is the closest to being on par with Verizon?

I worked for Verizon in CSR and Sales, enjoyed the service. When we parted ways it became expensive for me as no longer had the employee plan.

I am now with Sprint, which runs off of CDMA same as verizon wireless. AtnT runs off of a different network.

I have a blackberry and for 99 bucks a month get unlimited EVERYTHING including data minutes texting etc. their "simple everything plan works off of every phone i believe "

I have been very happy with sprint. ! Better yet i know exactly what every bill will look like..

Yes I'm aware that Sprint runs off CDMA, I'm talking about the size and extent of their coverage nationwide. I'm assuming that ATT's network is about the same size as Verizons. Also, I'm heading back to Hawaii soon and where I live Sprint can only make calls outside the house. By the same token, Verizon doesn't have great coverage at my home in Hawaii either. Right now I don't know if I'll leave Verizon, but if I continue to have problems I'll consider going to another carrier.

I gotta say though that those Verizon commercials about their "network" are really gettin on my nerves cos my experience has been the total opposite 🤣

I'd look at the carrier websites. Each carrier has maps some right down to street level of what to expect with coverage. I know how you frustrating that can get. Also most carriers have buyer's remorse so you can try it out first and if you are not happy you can quit without the ETF's.

If Sprint has coverage in South Carolina...I would take Sprint over AT&T hands down. However, the likelihood of Sprint covering a rural area better than AT&T...I don't know. sounds unlikely. Whatever you do...I suggest taking advantage of the 30 day trial period. Basically, activate a new number and if that carrier works THEN port in your Verizon number.

If they are willing to let him disconnect with not ETF then I would say that they have filed a trouble ticket already and it returned marginal coverage area.

Can't speak about Cali but I use my BB Curve all over Virginia, one daughter uses a Curve in Harrisonburg and another uses an enV in Lynchburg (VZW on the Alltel network) without issues at all...I get service in many places my wife's TMO Pearl is a paperweight...

I don't even know what to tell you. Good luck.

In VA I was mostly in between Rapidan and Charlottesville, in C-ville I was on Alltel's network without issue. In Rapidan there was no service within 5 miles. In Southern California my phone only works well when there's strong coverage, if that. This to me is surprising because you'd think that there'd be consistent signal here in SoCal.

Ok. How many bars of service do you have? EV and 1X.

I haven't received a clear answer on a similar question.

When you started with Verizon, did you get a brand-new number from Verizon, or did you bring a number with you to Verizon?

This relates to the issue I brought up in my previous post.

I thought I said "no" to coming from another carrier or porting in a number. I've never had any carrier or mobile number besides Verizon. I got my phone number FROM Verizon.

That said, in regard to EV and 1X bars, I normally range between nothing and 1 bar at my current location (Lake Elsinore, CA) for both EVDO and 1X. At home in Hawaii, I get at the most 2 bars of each.

I understand that being in fringe areas will yield poor call quality or no service...but I'm nowhere near the sticks! Right now I'm in a run-of-the-mill suburban area, and in Hawaii I'm 2 miles from the city in a heavily populated area.

To top that off, even when I'm showing 3-4 bars people are constantly complaining about my voice quality and how choppy I sound. A...
