Cingular and Verizon in Atlanta

Hey all I currently have Verizon and live in Atlanta. I live in the metro area so cvg is good wherever I go. I was wondering which one (if you live in Atlanta) is better. Both pretty much offer same plans at the same prices and Cingular has some pretty cool phones. In regards to Verizon, coverage has been awesome. What do you all think??

Check out T-Mobile. They have pretty good coverage in Atlanta and they also have competitive plans.

I would go with the best service. Phones are nothing without their respective network. The other thing I would reco is going to JDPower and looking at their cell phone service and reviews for the respective metro areas. Thats what I did when I moved to Philly. The other thing to keep in mind is that GSM Switches can only take a certain number of callers. I've found that the CDMA network with Sprint and Verizon holds a signal better in metro areas. The GSM network here is nothing compared to what I'm used to in London and Germany.

The GSM Networks here in the USA are not the same as in London and the rest of Europe because over there they operate at 2.0 - 2.5 of power where as here the FTC will not permit the US GSM carriers to exceed 1.5. That is why in England, and the most of Europe, you have CDMA standard reception with GSM networks. In other words you have coverage in buildings, basements etc, just as you would with the CDMA networks.
With respect to Atlanta, check out T Mobile. They have great prices and Cingular uses the T Mobile towers in Atlanta.

I've been with Vz almost 3 years now in Atl, NE inside 285, never had a problem, no dropped connections, always service. Before that, I had Sprint for 2 years, would get dropped on my street, until I went up my driveway. Had Powertel before Sprint.

Vz has the best coverage for me so far: Atl, Wash DC, Seattle, Denver, Chi. In going to NC, TN, thru the mountains, I would lose Sprint when I got off the main interstates by a couple of miles. Only place I've been so far without a good Vz connection was the east side of Glacier Nat Pk summer of 2003.

I even had Vz in little towns like Ouray, CO last summer.

Vz has great coverage, even if they're trying to sell too many expensive and/or gimmacky phones to push data and picture service...
