Not normally, but it's always wise to back up your data before doing anything heavy like that.

As a rule of thumb, you should ALWAYS back up your BlackBerry. If you do not have Outlook installed, just create a backup file via the back up and restore feature of the desktop manager.

I installed this update about 2 months ago. Has worked great, no complaints. During the install process, a back up file is created and all the data is restored. Remember that you will need to complete OTA programming and register your host routing tables. Also in order to enable HTML email support you will need to push the service books to the phone.

I'm trying to update my curve to the new software but after it checks the phone for application updates, it errors out and fails on me. Anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks in advance!!

I think verizon has to approve the upgrade before you can put it on your phone. I know some other people that tried to do the upgrade and had trouble. People on att, and t-mobile were having the same issue.

I have it loaded in my Verizon Curve and it works great. You need to remove the vendor.xml file as that is what makes it carrier specific. Once you install the update on your computer go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\app loader right click the vendor.xml file and delete it. Once that is done, plug in your curve while the desktop manager is open and you will be prompted to run the update.

Wow...what will deleting that file mean for the user in the future? Compatibility risks? Warranty risk? App & software issues?

Well, not sure what will happen in the future, but have had no issues with the device since installing it. And with the update being released, it really should not hurt the warranty. I have a back up copy of the orig OS just in case i need to revert it back.

You need to remove the vendor.xml file...
It's located in

c:\program files\common files\research in motion\app loader

Hope this helps.
