I may be interested in Verizon service, however I currently live in a non Verizon market. This market is served by Alltel though. Is it possible to sign up for Verizon service now or do I need to wait until the merger officially goes through?? Thanks in advance for the help!

I've seen hundreds of customers do this in the west. These customers accept the fact that they have to maintain a long-distance number to have decent cell phone coverage.

I'd go with Verizon and then let Verizon pick up your local Alltel area. You can keep your number or change it then.

I might suggest going with Alltel if you want things like "MyCircle" because when VZW takes it over, you'll probably be grandfathered in, at least for the term of your agreement. Plus, you'll have a local number (I'm finding that the local number thing these days isn't a big issue as it once was?)

i've noticed that too...with most people using cells as their primary phones a local number seems almost a moot point with free long distance.
