I have an LG VX8600....while in my condo I get 3+ bars of EV constantly and when it comes to 1X very low and non existant coverage. I know EV handles the data and 1X handles the voice. But what I dont get is how one is better than the other in the same location if they are both coming from the same tower?

Different network.

Out in Phoenix I consistently had better EV coverage versus 1x/RTT.

It could also be an issue of utilization. The more people on the 1x network, the weaker the signal. You should be ok with 1 bar of 1x though am I right?

well living in a major city (St. Louis) I would have figured with a company the size of Verizon Wireless I would not have these kinds of issues.

on the contrary, they would have even more of these issues because there would be so many people on the same tower

Mr. WestCoITGuy-

8600 is not really know as a good reception phone. Visit a corp. location and have a tech make sure you have the latest software...one of the changes is better 1x reception...

and please realize that the signal strength indicator on your phone is not a representation of the likelihood of completing a successful call.

I took it to a corp. verizon store...I did all the software updates, and *228 stuff. It works about the same.

Here is what I dont like. I am walking in the parking lot of my condo...outside....no trees above...I have to walk all over to find coverage and even be able to place a call.

Inside my condo I actually get better coverage than outside. But the coverage is still very lacking.

I called customer service....call got passed on to Network Ops...long story shorty...they had a tech sent out to my location and said that I am in a bit of a valley and the signal coverage in and around my house is lacking.

They gave me the option of leaving w/o having to pay an ETF.

So you're at the point where you've exhausted all your options, so either sack up and port or deal with it!

If you are in a bit of a valley thats gonna be tough for any carrier because more than likely you're below reception signal. Ask your friends and family what kind of coverage they get and what carrier. That way if you do port out you know your not wasting your time.

"and please realize that the signal strength indicator on your phone is not a representation of the likelihood of completing a successful call."

Very true, even if you have good coverage you could still not be able to connect-or (as what happens to apparently a lot of people in my area on VZW) the call drops constantly.

However, if the indicator shows no service, or close to none, the chances of connecting go down until you get "No Service" and your phone is useless during that time.
