new verizon policy hurts indirects

so i just read the qrg for minimum advertised price that verizon just implemented. basically if an indirect is offering an "new, exciting device" as vz puts it, at a lower price than the MAP an indirect cannot advertise a price lower than the MAP, so say an indirect is offering a really good deal, better than a vz corporate store they can still give you the deal, but they can't actually advertise it...they have to post the MAP and if an indirect violates this they can lose access to these "new, exciting devices"

now i know that they don't want us undercutting them, but isn't that a little draconian? we already can't do alot of things that corporate is allowed to do (ie look at bills, notes on accounts, cancel contracts, etc) so why do th...

I don't think your rep will talk about it. They pretty much state they won't talk about it. I asked my rep a question and he said he hadn't read up on the new policy. I think that's they answer they give because they can't talk about it.

they despise our existance. they'll do anything possible; this is probably to combat the circuit city and best buy deals; we lost sales to them in this area, and if corp. can, they will. whatever.

It's a crock! Corporate can advertise lower than us! They can offer to activate someone and give them a Krzr, and 3 razr's for free, and if we did that we'd lose our a$$eS! Meanwhile, we're the ones getting yelled at because "well it says verizon on your store, so you need to honor this". When has a corp store ever been told "well your sign says (insert agents location name here), you need to do this!"

I guess, we (indirects) will just have to advertise at the same price and offer to throw in an accessory here or there (of same value of difference in advertised price) for "free!"

Yeah, I flipped out about it whenever I first read it too, but upon further review I dont think its as big a deal as first thought.

While they under cut us all teh time and offer specials (bogos) that we cant possible match, they dont want us doing it to them.

But its only on certian phones, such as the "next" phones, and I think that the prices will be probably pretty profitable for us, (i.e. th iphone). They just want a uniform price on the new "hot lick" phones that were going to get exclusives on.

I pretty much see this as an iPhone knda thing.

But I wouldnt worry too much about it.

So you can't advertise a price for lower than their company stores... can you label it with something stating "Too low to advertise"? I know I've seen stores do that before.

Yes, we can do that. And we can put what ever price we want in the store. Just can't advertise it lower than they allow for that particular phone.

Oh, so you just can't run ads in the paper? That's not too bad. I'd still check and see if you could run ads saying your prices are too low to advertise though. Stating the truth shouldn't be against their policy.

Yes we can advertise "prices too low to advertise"

We got sent a package detailing what we can and cannot say, however we are able to sell them for whatever price we want, just not advertise.

We can even put signage in the windows that advertise lower prices.

Its only going to be on "certian exlusive phones"

Its not going to be on phones, im thinking its probably going to be just the new phones that are going to be the high dollar ones that are going to be "iphone" style marketing.

They will probably charge an arm and a leg for those phones and knock indirects out of the picture anyway.

No, we normally loose about $100 being subsidized on the phones, im going to think that they are going to be higher profit, say we buy them for $500, and Verizon is advertising them for $499, they dont want us selling them for $399.

I think it will all be ok in the end.

Um... I believe we're going to be allowed to advertise at the same price as the corp stores. They are going to obide by MAP too. I think it will actually be good for us. If Wal-Mart and Best Buy have to do this as well then we won't have to worry about Best Buy advertising every phone for free anymore, they'll have to use the MAP as well.
