Verizon Plans, the Big Picture
Anyone else notice how Verizon has been gradually creating two very different plans? A digital "house brand"
AC, plan that seems much like the SPCS model while maintaining an all inclusive National Single Rate.
I'm wondering if it's only high roaming partner costs (like US Cellular in OR) which precludes Free Roam coverage in AC the PRL?
This two tiered system, where Verizon not only offers customers a very competitive AC plan, but also a maximum coverage SR, as well as the option to switch between them, seems like a huge competitive advantage. Verizon just seems to keep lumbering towards some far of goal, slowly but surely.

I would compare this to Wal-Mart. They ask their suppliers for a lower price, and in return Wal-Mart buys more from that supplier than others.
Verizon's roaming payments to other carriers is good income, and most carriers would rather have SOME roaming income, than none. So the future availablilty of roaming rests more in the hands of the roaming carriers.
Some of them must be seeing a drop-off in roaming income as the popularity of AC plans cause VZ customers to completely avoid roaming on some systems.
I find this evolution superior to larger carriers buying up all the others. We see just that happening in areas where VZ has found it cheaper to buy the system than pay them roaming charges.

Another advantage AC plans have over F&CA, is that ALL your minutes can be used over the entire coverage area, and not be considered "roaming", While F&CA limits you to 50% of you plan minues when using the phone off the Sprint PCS Network.
I know that VZ would put up more towers if they owned that area! Here in Ohio, VZ is good, (one of the best), over in Indiana, Cingular is the best, kind of wierd if you ask me. 🙄
