Hi,

Maybe somebody can help me understand something. I want to upgrade to a pda phone (Q or something like that) mainly for the pda functionality. I use mobile web on my razor and pay something like $5/month - not so bad.

Verizon tells me that mobile web is not available on pda phones, that i need to subscribe to the $40/month data plan to use the web. They said they's a pay per kilobyte option, but the system often does not log you out after use and people end up paying for 24 hours of service based on not logging out. data plans are 10mb for 24.99 and unlimited (read: 4 or 5 gb capped) for 44.99. Your $40 pricetag probably was a bundled option, but the 10mb price can't be reduced with bundling. non-pda phones do have a less expensive data package for similar features; this is how VZ world works.

I know from experience that if you do the pay per K plan, the bill will add up quick and I mean QUICK. Your best option if you can't afford or don't want to pay for the data service is to either skip getting the PDA phone and get something like the ENV phone, or get a phone with built in wifi so you can check your email via wifi access points instead of EVDO or give up your email checking from the phone. I know that sucks but those are pretty much your only options in this situation.

Thanks - that pretty much confirms what I thought. Nice to get intelligible, educated answers now and again.

They are right about the data. You can do the 44.95 unlimited, 24.95 for 10meg or the pay per use which is about 15.00 per meg.
