i am THIS close to moving to helio.. probably in the next week or so (from verizon).. but i was wondering how open they are to 3rd party developers..

i have been looking everywhere, but not having much luck.. does anyone know how this works?

i am mostly interested in buddy beacon and developing gps based apps...

thanks!

That's the one of the things I have going against Helio. I think they have a Java platform on the phones so maybe you could run mobile java apps. Anybody try 3rd party java apps on Helio phones?

buddy beacon is only for helio devices and exclusively to helio.
all their programs/apps/java are pretty much what everyone needs. if you want to put up a certain java app let me know, and ill see if it can be done!

here's a thread/forum I found a while back,

It looks like some work is being done but yeah I agree with the above that the Drift seems to have everything you would want/need BUT I do understand the "it's mine and I want to use it to the fullest attitude." I put Linux on my ipod nano and it was ok...but after I installed it I was kind of "Ok, what now?"

I would definitely be interested in a hack to allow non-helio subscribers to see the buddy beacon on their PC or w/e. There has to be a way to do it. If Xenu can know my location at all times then so should my friends.
