My amp'd adventure

I ordered my phone (Motorola E816 Hollywood) and it arrived 3-4 days later. I fired it up and called to activate it and everything was fine. The hold times are a bit long but the people are generally friendly and I encountered no hassle with getting clear answers to my questions.

The phone it self is great! Nice features, good channels (overload package) and the price is about $10 a month less than with my nextel phone and get 200 more minutes a month a verizon quality coverage (which is excellent around here). I have even watched a few clips from commedy centeral and it worked fine. The speaker for the phone is a bit "tinney" but it's phone and it's not so bad with the ear piece. The menus and navigation are simple and are fast, way fas...

So I finially got my # number ported over yesterday and to amp'd mobile's credit the customer support was excellent from all the folks I spoke with except for one person and she wasn't bad, just tried to give me the brush off.

I have also been playing with the phone some more and I must say, that EVDO is very nice it still buffers once in a while but it is not too obnoxiously long. I supose it deponds in your signal and how many others are using their phone's etc. I also got the bluetooth headset (H700) which so far has works suprisingly well.

If anyone is considering switching I'd say if have good coverage in your area you will be happy. Just be weary of the number porting - I don't know if it was just bad luck on my part or what but...

It wasn't anything that you did to cause your porting problems. I sell Verizon Wireless, and most everytime I port a number over from Nextel, some sort of problem occurs. I have talked to Nextel reps for customers a few times, and my experience is that they are just rude and everything else a customer service rep should NOT be. So, dont feel bad.

Sprint and nextel have horrible customer service and Verizons customer service reps know about as much as the dirt i clean off my shoes. I shouldnt be saying this because i sell Sprint and Amp'd but the truth is all CDMA companies have all right reps like there ok people but they know hardly anything. Its not really there fault because CDMA companies are confusing especially when it comes to activation and porting because they dont have Sim cards. T-mobile is ranked number #1 in customer care for a reason, most people see the FREE PHONES that Sprint and Verizon offer and go to them, well if you fall into the free trap then your going to get what your going to get.

Just wanted to do another follow-up, still have the phone, still have the service and love them both. The Intenet access and Amp'd live are very cool and the price is still pretty worth it for what I have. Having phone access to FOX news is also very kick arse.

...And for those in the S.F. Bay Area (East Bay specifically) the coverage is EVDO all over and into S.F. and up to Redding/Red Bluff, CA (I-5) in my travel's thus far. Haven't been back east or down south as of yet but I know VZdub (from prior experence) has good coverage just about anywhere - so have fun.

Amp'd is the worst company i've EVER come across! Their customer service is absolutley unacceptable! they are known for over charging and not taking responsibility, i'd be shocked if they dont have numerous lawsuits soon. Yes, the service is good, but is it worth it?? NO!! 😈

I should have read your post a lot closer when I 1st saw it. I ordered my Hollywood on the 1st of July; It arrived on the 7th, which was the 1st day that I call to activate my phone and port my number over from Virgin Mobile. It's now the 19th and still no port. I've tried even complaining to the FCC and still nothing. Amp'd does have great costumer service, but yea, their port team needs to be fired and banned from telecommunications for life. I've been playing phone tag for a week and a half with VM & Amp'd. I got the same story from VM about the # being already released; and then some story about Sprint holding the number, which now is starting to make a lot of sense. Sprint truly is the EVIL EMPIRE!!!

Of course you'll say that since you've been brainwashed for the past 3 years working under the Empire. If anything, your beefs' not with me, its with VM cs who blames you for bulling them around. Buts its good to see you doing a little spying on the other "little brother company" forums.

P.S. Dear Sprint and all Sprint fan boys & girls, you are not "God's Gift to Wireless", get over yourselves

oh just so you know porting from NEXTEL is always a mission. When i found out what was happening with my port it was NEXTEL that was holding off the number and never sent it. They tell you its not their fault but in the long run its always their fault DArn cell phone companies!
