My amp'd adventure

by dsmythe    Apr 10, 2006, 6:24 PM

I ordered my phone (Motorola E816 Hollywood) and it arrived 3-4 days later. I fired it up and called to activate it and everything was fine. The hold times are a bit long but the people are generally friendly and I encountered no hassle with getting clear answers to my questions.

The phone it self is great! Nice features, good channels (overload package) and the price is about $10 a month less than with my nextel phone and get 200 more minutes a month a verizon quality coverage (which is excellent around here). I have even watched a few clips from commedy centeral and it worked fine. The speaker for the phone is a bit "tinney" but it's phone and it's not so bad with the ear piece. The menus and navigation are simple and are fast, way faster than motorola's older phones and the interface is the nicest that I myself have seen.

So here is where they dropped the ball. I called Last friday and had my number ported from nextel and as far as nextel is concerned, this has been a done deal for some days now. But the crack number porting team a amp'd/VZW seems to not to have been able to port my number now for the last four days for some reason they are not telling me. First they had me call nextel back and nextel of course said sorry it's been handed off and the account closed, have a nice day. And then some at amp'd finially said thay they have my number so it is not lost BUT they have to contact VZW's number porting team --- and of course they don't work weekends. Just my luck. So the tech I was talking to said it would be fixed monday. It's 4pm Monday and I was just told to call back tomorrow when the tech that I was working with saturday is back becuase he know's what is going on with my number that's it. No, We're sorry, no promise of resolution, no we'll call VZW and get it fixed. nothing.

Yes - ok I have a temporary number and yes I can place out going calls but the primary issue is that the number is in the wrong A/C and porting a # should not be this much hassle. On top of this I have had clients calling then emailing me asking my why my number is not working and I have embarassingly explain to them that my new provider can't do something as basic as move my number from A to B.

Other tahn that my service and phone has been overall very good.

my $0.02,
-d
