IDEN will NOT be given to the Feds but they WILL have their own versions and freqency for their own use. Trust me they wont go away its just a way for IDen to make more money and the Feds to have a more secure way to communicate via PTT/cell.

i know that, but the rumors are stating otherwise..

iden after 2010 is useless anyway especially when half of the spectrum and towers would be transformed into cdma starting in the 2008 time frame...

makes a lot of sense for that rumor to be true however, i wont speculate on rumors.

iDen is too profitable to give up immediately, that rumor is rediculous, to stop fears that the rumor is spreading, i think sprint nextel should tell people whats going on with iDen

Sorry...I can't even begin to address this premise, it's so ridiculous that I will just leave it alone!

I do suspect something will have to be addressed as far as a possible conflict of interest between Virgin and Boost, but I chose to let the Lawyers thumb wrestle that one out.

We are committed to offering the best possible service we can for as long as we do exist and that includes today, tomorrow, and as far into the future as we can...Jess

It aint no thang. Virgin'll continue to sell to the suburban white kidz and boost'll continue to sell to the hip-hop urban kids (or at least the ones who think they're hip-hop urban kids).

Ain't no thang.

well IDEN will be around until 2010 so that is when Boost will be around for. boost also can be on the CDMA network of Sprint's when the integration happens in the 2007+ time frame.

FACE IT! BOOST WILL ONLY BE AROND FOR A FEW YEARS. (UNLESS THEY START THEIR OWN I DEN NETWORK) WHICH AIN'T HAPPENING. I DEN WILL BE USED FOR E911 (GOVERNMENT) ATLEAST THAT'S WHAT MY SPRINT REPS TELL ME AND IT SOUNDS LIKE RIGHT TO ME. HOW BOUT YOU?

Oct 24, 2005, 1:33 AM
Nope...I will admit that the iden network has a shelf life but why would E911 want something it already has?
And I have to say that any information of this nature needs some examination regarding it's source.....I certainly don't have all the insider knowledge and I will allow that there are changes in the wind but a Sprint representitive seems to have a vested interest in spitting into the wind about a product that they have no control or response to.
Hell, don't you think Sprint would like to have the added advantage that Nextel has enjoyed for years ( iDen power) as part of their sales package...instead of spouting off about dumping the only part of the merger that adds impact to their bottom line!

I will close this by admitting m...

e911 has something to deal with the compliance for the GPS system. the governement wont take iden from nextel. lol. that is the funniest thing i have ever heard in my life. lol.

boost will be around till at least 2010 and could be in place of virgin mobile on the cdma side of things.

if boost still exists(you know how companies merge and die) by 2010, i think they will use cdma/qChat, but it might happen before 2010, and i wonder if iDen is being rebanded to 1900mhz, i always thought iDen only works on SMR frequencies

Iden would be rebanded into 800mhz not 1.9ghz.

qchat will be 08.

Sprint reps are, in general, idiots. Their entire POS (oops, I meant PCS) system was never as good as anyone elses (Verizon or CIngular), and now that they have iDEN under their wing they have no clue as to its value and they are destroying the Nextel brand. Sprint sucks, I wish Nextel would just overthrow them and get back to business.

no one said that.. i said that it could be a possiblity that nextel will be used primarily by public safety people but still under nextel's control.... (well after the 2010 period though)

i was also thinking that after that time frame perhaps nextel could sell some of its assets to the goverenemnt or to public safety companies etc...

If you ask me it all depends on demand. Let's just say Boost sales and use is in crushing demand and dominates Virgin. Which do you think they would keep in 2010. Look how long Iden has been here. I think it will remain. Hey Jess how about sending me a app!! I am tired of working for Verizon. Heh

For all those wondering if Nextel's Iden is going to phase out. I don't think it is going to happen anytime soon. Read the following article. They have released a Complete handheld mobile computing device that also utilizes Nextel's Iden PTT. Again, I don't think it is going anywhere soon

i dont know if your being sarcastic or not but i'll answer: widen is the wifi technology that is spawned from the backing of iden.

it wifi communication just with a longer distance and faster speeds. from what i hear it wont be very secure or private. but niether is ptt.

Widen actually has nothing to do with WIFI. Widen is just an upgrade of current data speeds that exists on the nextel's network. it will give about up to 70kb/s sorta like what 1x and gprs and edge do for gsm and cdma networks.

Widen is an upgrade from the current data speeds. it allows up to 70kb/s and it is kinda like 1xrtt and gprs is to gsm and to cdma. hope that helps.

iDen will not be given to the government, that is a rumor that is not true, iDen will be supported until 2010, what sprint is doing right now is slowly migrating its iDen customers to its CDMA network, and right now, motorola is producing cdma/iden phones for sprint, the cdma will be for voice and iDen will be for Direct Connect ONLY!, this will effectively move people off of iDen and on to cdma, while still using iDen for direct connect, but this will not stop the production of iDen only phones, they will be supported until 2012, when Sprint fully deploys EV-DO(their highspeed network) Revision A(right now its at revison 0), they will deploy qChat, which is qualcomms, pust to talk technology which will be as fast as or faster than dc, and i...

I heard that rumor also. But the spin of it I heard was that the government ISNT taking iDen, that what they are doing is breaking up the iDen network in sense. That the "consumer" will have their own band and "goverment" ie: police, fire, etc, will have their own band. I think that this is just a continued from back in the day when you used to get crossed sometimes and hear other peoples chirps. Not a huge issue, but you know how everyone likes to blow things up and make them seem like its the end of the world.

Jul 20, 2006, 10:09 AM
Yea, that isnt true at all. Enough saying that IDEN will be "given" or "sold" to the government it wont happen, especially now. The only thing that is being thought up is to have push to talk centric users (mainly gov officials and SMR providers) to be used on the IDEN network.

Re-banding plan is going well by the way. (consensus plan. FCC. interference plan)

its not that the goverment is just kicking them off but they will not support nextel IDEN after 2010. also yes if the goverment wants to it CAN take it back after all the goverment/DARPA paid for it and designed it

Jul 21, 2006, 11:21 AM
The current plans is to support IDEN until 2010, however, they could always extend that plan again to push to talk centric users, which was a talk prior to the merger between Nextel and sprint.

The gov Can not take back the network that Nextel has spent billions of dollars on with towers and spectrum just like that, so please dont say that statement, since it isn't true. they could buy it back, but not "take it". Sorry.

Good Lord ...does this conversation ever end?

C'mon guy's...Boost will go the way of the dodo just like all cellular providers do in in it's own time!

Look at the big ones and the little ones, even AT&T bit the dust ...Verizon and T-Mobile didn't spring from the earth, the bought out all of the other wantabe's; those with the cards play the games, those of us without, pay the bills until the next greatest thing comes along and we all jump onto that bandwagon. It's cyclical and the wheel will continue to roll....Boost has a solid path based upon the hard work Nextel has done to build it and they have chosen to extend it by going all in with Sprint, but it will eventually succomb to market pressures that none of us really know...so stic...
