Boost Handsets on Nextel Network

I seen a thing on sprints site that says you can bring your boost phone to the nextel network. But a sprint rep said it cannot be done, that boost phones do not work on the nextel network. I need a nextel phone. I was thinking that it would be great if I could get a I875 and use it on nextel with my old sprint number!!

This is one of those wierd situations....Nextel wants you to buy a new handset! They tell me that some of the older Boost models are compatible with the Nextel SIM but they won't really commit to a list. I am certain of the i730, it is able to make the leap, but my question is if you want the Nextel contract package why not use the leverage your commitment gives you and make a deal for the handset you want from the Nextel line-up? The i870 is the sister to the i875 and remember, it will always work with a Boost SIM and the i875 may not be compatible with the Nextel SIM.....

Heck..if your willing to sign on for 2-3 years why not wheel & deal with a Nextel Dealer for the phone YOU want?
As much as I support Boost I don't see why you should...

Well its because in my comparison of the I875 and I870 I like the boost version better! It seems to be a bit slimmer and much better looking I think. I might just stay on boost and continue to use my sprint phone also. I like having the best of both worlds!

Yeah... Sprint is making hard for me to make this whole switch, so I keep everything how it is and just get the I875 and carry 2 phones. I dont live in the area where my number is from anymore so they wont let me port it over anyway!

This is one of the many reasons I support a Pay-As-You-Go system...you are not subject to the demands and constraints the contract service lays on ya'...I have never been very good at conforming. I hope this won't be to much of a burden , two phones, but let me know if I can help with some ideas on how to make it as cheap and esay to maintain as possible Belial...Jess

It looks like from your post that any Nextel phone will work with boost. Is this true? If so, are there any odd hoops you have to jump through or can you just plug the sim into the phone and go?

Sorry about that. After a quick search on these forums, I found the answer (basically, any "normal" (ie, domestic) Nextel phone should work). I came into this forum from google, and prematurely posted the question.

Hey Slaq-2...
When I called Nextel on this, I received a whole bunch of conflicting information about the viability of Boost specific handsets.

I was told some phones have the software that allows the transfer and some don't but they would not give me a list of the specific ones... The i730 I was asking about about at the time was able to make the switch.

I honestly have to pass the question back to those with more product specific knowledge about current Nextel policy and process'. In my mind I have a hard time accepting that all of the Motorola handsets are transferable if they have the proper subsidy lock programmed into the firmware. But I suggest we ask Nextel-18, he has always been the most reliable source of info regarding Nex...
