Wireless Web

I'm wondering if someone here can clear up something for me. I have seen the Boost Mobile Wireless Web described as offering "unlimited Web access" and also as offering "unlimited Internet access". I take Web access to mean that they block all of the non Web ports, whereas I take Internet access to mean that no ports are blocked. Which is correct? To put it another way, does Boost Mobile block any ports when accessing the Wireless Web?

Thanks,
Brent

Brent,

I am confused by the language you use when you speak of "Web ports"....When we talk about unlimited access to the Wireless Web I understand that you are only limited by the capabilities of the phone. Some sites are obviously unable unviewable by the type of handset you have. Depending on content some sites will give an error that refers to incompatibility, sites with lots of graphics or pictures...
I have been told that if you get an error that refers to this you may need to try a different site that is offered for the information you are looking for, or if you have a specific site that you want to visit and your phone is not compatible you can contact the webmaster on that site from a PC and request a WAP compatible link....

OK, I guess more information would be helpful. I am thinking of writing a J2ME application for the Boost Mobile phones, and would like the application to communicate with a server on a port other than a standard Web port (80(http), 443(https), 8080(http-alt), etc). I'm guessing that a phones inability to display certain content is a limitation of the phones Web application displaying the content, especially if the content is in a web page. I have run into providers blocking ports in other situations like T-Mobile's T-Zones where they block most ports other than the Web ports listed above.
Any additional information you could provide would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for your involvement in this forum, Jess.

None the wiser,

Took me awhile, huh?

I fully admit I am out of my element when it comes to data support, but I have been able to get some avenues that you can explore to answer your questions. Boost does have a limited number of ports that can be accessed, versus some of the more costly Data packages you could purchase if you had a Nextel account.
The question about the j2me was finally anwsered by a Technical Agent in our Wireless web support department...her suggestion was that you can go online to Nextel.com and there is a site specifically devoted to developers. I am certain you are aware of this already, but to answer the indepth questions you have posed your gonna need somebody with more knowledge than a high school dropout lik...
