🙄 The story begins on Saturday. This guy came into my shop saying he needed a phone and fast. he broke his old one and was going out of town in a few hours. I checked he account (his dad's) and found that they weren't able to get reduced pricing on a phone until June. I explained and he asked how much a new phone would be now. I told him all i had in stock was a $200 phone (the truth) and that all the other stores in the area were closed now (came in at 1:58PM) so he was pretty limited in his choices. I told him he could shop on eBay, but he reiterated that he needed it now. I thought for a bit and remembered that I had a customer that had an extra 8410. so I told the guy about the phone. came on phonescoop and let him read up ...

As he is not a minor and can make legally binding agreements by himself, it really doesn't matter what she thinks. If he likes it, and he was the satisfied customer, all is well with the world. Did she even mention why she thought "it wasn't right"? Sounds perfectly 'right' to me. Especially considering all the work you did.

She said that she didn't think it was right that I charge her son $60 for a used phone, even if it was in mint condition. I guess she is one of those who think that cell phones cost what we charge for them on new activations. I told her that he could have gotten a NEW flip phone for $200, but he didn't have that much. So I offerend the 8410, and asked him to name his price.

That's probably the hardest part of my job, phone pricing.
Having to explain to people that phones do go anywhere from $135 to $320 for a brand new phone. People coming in trying to get the website price on a renewal, etc...

By the way, I laughed at the smack in the back of the head. If only... 🤣

There is only one thing that I can see you did wrong. You didn't tell her to leave immediately for her ignorance, followed up with a smack in the back of the head on the way out.

Thank you, it is always nice to have your opinions validated. At first I thought, maybe I charged too much, that was a fleeting worry. In the end I just thought she was being an overbearing mother, who doesn't know how to let her kid grow up. I mean, really, the MAN can make big-boy decisions. 😲

That is how much it was for a replacement through RD. That was just fine.
