Flashing other phones to use on CellularOne

In another thread, drewage81 said ". . . maybe i can flash one [Audiovox 8940] over."

I would really like to know who can flash phones besides our local CellularOne store. They're great for Kyocera's and Motorola's, but they can't do Nokia's and won't even try on an LG phone. LG makes some really nice CDMA phones that some people would really like to use on CellularOne! What does it take?

In order for CellularONE to flash a handset for use on their service they have to currently offer that same model. Since they don't currently offer any LG handsets, they aren't able to flash them... and depending on which Nokia & Kyocera models you are trying to flash they may not be able to flash those either.

In my opinion, the reason why carriers ask manufacturers to pre-load software onto their phones is to reduce the likelyhood a customer will cancel and change carriers because the phone will not work (without flashing) adding hassle when trying to switch, forcing a customer to stay or buy a new phone after switching.

Some stores DO flash phones, some sent them to a tech center and have them flashed (sometimes at no charge, often with) but my local store does not.

if you get the phone directly from bright point it can be flashed, but there are codes needed to hard flash a phone from another provider, and really, would you just hand over codes that made it easier for customers to drop your service??

Exactly. In practice, we refuse to give out SPC codes for the CDMA phones that use them. That's why they came out with them in the first place. *shrug*
