putting an unlocked phone into service with CellularOne

CellularOne doesn't offer a good smartphone I want to buy an unlocked trio 650. My question is...will I have a pronlem putting an unlocked phone into service with them. Is there any down side to buying your own unlocked phone and puting into service with a carrier?

Yes, an unlocked treo 650 will work on the Cellular One network. You will have to have a knowledgeable sales rep manually put in the MMS and WAP settings. It is fairly simple to do and if they know the IP addresses and other info it takes about 5 minutes. I work for Cellular One and have a Treo 650 myself. The one thing I have against it is that the reception on the phone isnt the best.

I have a couple questions for you coming from a consumer point of view, and also speaking as a store manager for a cellular one store in PA.

What do you like about the trio 650? What functions are you looking for in a smart phone? Are you wanting to use this devise for data and voice? Have you looked into a Blackberry 7100G?

I personally use the devise now and was a previous palm user.

There is always some risk of buying a unlocked phone vs: a phone that is produced and programed specifically for the provider that you are using. Our company doesn't support the Blackberry. We did for a while,and it was not cost effective for their proprietary system.

I would suggest that Cellular one start introducing some smart phones with a keypad. Of the many smart phones now available, Cellulare One doesn't offer any? My choice for carriers is limited to 2...and Alltel is not any better.

I'm also tired of hearing carriers scare consummers about the damgers of buying an unlocked phone. Carriers are no longer selling phones...they are selling computers. I believe they should start training their staff on how their products work.
