All these mergers going on...

Anyone else hear about T-Mobile looking at a merger with Dobson?

Yes, I have. As far as i know, just from talking to our cell one reps from oklahoma city, it is just a rumor. if it does happen, then great. however most of t-mobiles phones from my area dont have the 850 band, so they wouldnt be able to utilize our towers, but it sounds good for cell one. We already beat them in coverage b/c of our roaming off cingular's national network in the midwest. on the east coast, we still and hopefully always will trounce them. i get maybe a dozen cancelled t-mobile customers every month switching because of poor coverage.

It makes sense though, in light of the Cingy-ATTW and Sprint-Nextel mergers, for T-Mobile to try to 'get big' also. And since they're probably not going to be able to merge with the current mergers, or with Verizon (incompatible technologies & antitrust/monopoly issues), about the only way T-Mobo can 'get big' is to merge with sizeable regional GSM carriers, like Cell 1/Dobson.

Unfortunately, Cell 1/Dobson has only about 2 million customers, so that doesn't help T-Mobo all that much. Still, it'd be something. T-Mobo needs coverage.

only 1.6 million at my last count.. however i do think it'd be beneficial to both companies. with all the merger mania goin on companies will have to team up just to compete.

T-Mobile aren't going to merge with Dobson. If anything T-Mobile would buy them but that possibility is very remote. I don't think any of the big boys are interested in the regional companies.

as far as the 850 band....T-mobile is releasing a whole slew of new phones that will be quadband.

Moto v330
Moto v188

just to name two. Now most Moto's are quadband from the begenning, ut tmobile actually lock out the 850 on the current v300 and v600 models... so somethng may be on the horizion.

Also the blackberry 7100T and HP IPAQ are quadband as well

There is absolutely NO MERGER happenning with t-mobile! First of all, they don't have the funding to purchase cell one from dobson. Deutch Telekom released a statement earlier this year or late last year ruling out any possible t-mobile aquisitions for at least 2 years. search for it on mobiletracker.net, a link from this website. I also recently met with the General Manager for the Northeast region of cell one, asked him if he was aware of the rumor and he said they were in the process of stopping it, it is completely untrue. Don't know where you are from, but in my locale t-mobile uses this rumor as a selling strategy since they have very poor coverage and rate plans compared to cell one. Lying to potential customers who will walk donw t...

That doesn't even make sense...t-mobile is GSM....cell one is CDMA. I would see a merger with Verizon first. At least once cingular puts the heat on in the mid-west.

you are thinking of cell one/western wireless.. cell one in 16 states, mostly eastern/midwest usa was tdma, then switched to 850 gsm over a year ago. we roam off of old at&t and new cingular towers, as well as t-mobile, making for a nice coverage map 😁

Just like in Indiana, there have been rumors that T-Mobile is considering buying out Centennial Wireless, for their A-side 850 band. If they were to buyout Centennial, it would enhance coverage for most of Indiana and parts of Michigan, but also expand into some rural communities too. But I heard that Centennial Wireless has a poor network, just like T-Mobile, and that would only add to the problems T-Mobile already has with their own network. If Dobson has a good network; would it remain a good network under T-Mobile? T-Mobile's network in NW Indiana as well as the city of Chicago is terrible, with Chicago being even worse.

Well....I live in Indiana and I also lived in Chicago and I never had coverage issues. Maybe you should get a new phone or sim card....
