Had a customer today with a BB 7100G and he was experiencing a lot of congestion in his area. His T-Mobile work phone works just fine. I was going to go back there and get a test phone b/c I know there are options to change preferred networks.. Talked with a lead to see if we even had test BB devices and he asked what for. I told him what I wanted to do and he said that option is taken out of our phones.

I checked my basic nokia... and ill be damned if he wasnt right..

My question is, is there a way he can update the device to get that option back in the phone?

I was told that cellone takes that option out to prevent massive roaming charges on customers accts (and to save the company money).. seems like its a crutch to our ...

We don't ever loan out the Blackberry devices for issues. But to answer your question, our SIM engineering team removed the option from the cards to stave off any insane amounts of roaming. Updating the device won't enable this option, and only certain execs and engineers have the option available on their own SIM cards. I had a Nokia 3300 on old, blue AT&T Wireless and was able to do it with an AT&T SIM card. When I unlocked it for Dobson and put my Dobson SIM in it, network selection is not present. Anytime I put my dead AT&T SIM in there, it's present, so the option has to be pushed out by engineering, and they ain't gone do that for a regular consumer. Make sense yet? Remember, it's all about "money". Evil world we live in, isn't it?

Thats cool. I was just wondering. It pisses me off sometimes that I cant help a customer, ya know? I hate to give up and just tell them they are SOL. 👿

Hey titans, I wasnt doubting what you told me. Just wanted to see if there was any other option to fix the issue. Like I said, I just hate to tell a customer I cant help them if theres anything I can do to get them up and running.

I'm not one of those bastages that just sends out an OAA thinking thats the be-all-end-all to troubleshooting 🤣
