We just got our letter of Cellular One informing us of AT&T Taking it over and the letter said it expected the acquisition to be complete within the next few months. They must be speeding it along which is good of course!

Yes. My mom received her letter in the mail on Saturday. I'm excited for her because she has been getting really bad service and call quality with Cellular One, so we're hoping that with the AT&T acquisition she'll receive better service.

Also almost all the lines on her account are almost out of their contracts, so I told her it would be best to wait until they become AT&T so she can get an AT&T cell phone and plan.

I'm just glad to have left Cellular One eight months ago due to degrading reception and bad service. Now I have Verizon (roam on Thumb Cellular while at home) and I have crystal clear calls wherever I go.

Just becuase AT&T is buying out Dobson doesn't mean that service will automatically improve, as far as reception is concerned. There are places in Indiana that both AT&T & Verizon have poor coverage. Starke County as an example. AT&T is PCS out there, since Centennial Wireless has the A side, while VZW has the B side. AT&T doesn't even cover the entire county, mainly focussing on US 30, while VZW has a tower here & there, like Centennial Wireless. While still crappy, but better than the attempt that AT&T did with covering Starke County. So don't expect automatic improvements in service, since most of Dobson's network is in rural territory. Verizon isn't as great in rural areas either, as I have problems in portions of Starke County, ...

The thing is just because the name will change or the takeover happens doesn't change the type of service you have in your same area. If you had wack reception before at home, you'll still have wack reception until more spectrum is built in your area. That's word.

That's kinda what I figured might happen, but I wasn't sure. There were a few areas that had gaps between AT&T's coverage and Dobson's coverage, so I figured they might fill them.

Also, I figured it'd be better for my mom to wait and get an AT&T phone since I noticed they have a nicer selection of phones and plans than Dobson does. Even if the service doesn't improve, she'll have a nicer phone just in case they eventually begin to improve Dobson's network.

I just don't want her to go to Thumb Cellular. Only if they get bought out by Verizon!

Dear Cris,

You may have seen a recent announcement that Dobson Communications Corporation, the parent company of Cellular One, has reached an agreement to be acquired by AT&T. This is an exciting change for the customer. We expect the acquisition to be completed in the coming months.

We are very excited to be joining forces with AT&T, who is the clear leader in wireless service with the fewest dropped calls and the largest national network in terms of population covered. There is a reason why more customers nation wide have chosen AT&T as their wireless provider, and Cellular One is proud that AT&T has recognized that Cellular One has a similar focus on providing customers with superior networks and customer service.
