i just signed up a few days ago and i just wanted to make sure everyone knew about a few things the guy in the store told me. i was talking to him about developing a plan for me to be able to upgrade from the Xcursion that i just got to the nokia slider, when it gets launched in January.

he told me that whenever anyone is signing up for cricKet service, and they are providing their own phone, whether they are activating a new line or not, they would be charged $15 for activating the phone on the line.

he also told me that the buyer could have some trouble getting their phone on their line, unless they signed up for the $50 per month plan, cuz only that plan will allow the phone to accept service from towers outside the phone's original...

My experience: the $15 phone activation fee IS charged whenever you switch to a different phone, even if you are an existing customer.

HOWEVER, IF you buy a brand new Cricket phone (i.e. packaged in a Cricket branded box, such as those you can purchase new from a Cricket store or Wal-Mart), AND you activate the phone by calling Cricket, you can request that the activation fee be waived due to the fact that you have purchased a "brand new Cricket phone" as opposed to a used phone like you might find on EBAY.

I believe that the operators at Cricket are able to waive that fee, but they won't necessarily volunteer to do it, so you should make a point to ask.

As for a buyer having trouble getting a phone on their line unless they signed ...

I work for Cricket and I think he was BSing you to try to get a new phone.

as for the first comment yes there is a 15.00 activation fee when not activating a new account. But with the new nokia 6265i slider you can use it on any rate plan but unless you are on the 50 plan, you will not have unlimited web browsing capabilities. That feature can be added to a lesser plan for 5.00 a month.
