If you read the story about the launch in Milwaukee & Madison Wisconsin on the main page, it says that it'll come to Chicago in the first half of 2009. Also, if you look at the coverage map (generalized, of course) for Wisconsin, it also shows future coverage for the entire Chicagoland area, Rockford, and points in between along I-90. It also shows Northern Indiana in most of Lake, Porter, LaPorte, St Joseph, & Elkhart Counties. So they plan to have the entire market covered as far south as Kankakee, and as far west as Morris, Dekalb, & Rockford. They also plan to have the northern suburbs covered as well, all the way up to the state line, to link with the Milwaukee market.

But I can't answer the part on how service is for other markets, or how it might be here. I do know that at least 2 towers have been built in my area, as Gary Indiana is part of Chicago.
I'm waiting to see for myself how Cricket will be, as I'm looking at wireless internet.
