Any Ideas on When Android 2.2 for HTC Desire will be Available

Does anyone know when the Android 2.2 will be released for the HTC Desire? I keep running into the Low Memory message and I've read about the ability to save your apps to the SD card. My contacts take a lot of space and the Google Earth and Sky seem to give me the Low Memory message if installed so I've had to remove for now. Does anyone else experience this and do others feel the phone is not being used to it's full potential without this ability?

We haven't been given a date yet. You can always call our Tech Team and ask them, or if your local store has a technician they should know. Otherwise, if you PM me I can try and find out for you.

I spoke with one of our techs last night and according to him, we don't have a date set yet. I still have our Service Manager to speak with, he will hopefully have a more solid answer for me to give you.

Well Android 2.2 is in rigorous testing right now. USCC doesnt just release untested stuff quickly, like other carriers do, but wants to make sure it is perfect (and possibly outdated) before it releases it to the customers. 😁

2.2 is stable and in full swing, it's not still under testing.

You rolled a Bluff check and got a natural '1'.

Yes it is. 2.2 is on testing tech phones and employee phones. And soon in a month or two it should be here.

Verizon and Sprint that push 2.2 out to quickly. Is now having problems. Why?.... you say. Because Google said to test it out for 3 to 4 months first with the phone manufacturer first. And then the carries after. So both carriers didn't listen. So, problems with the phones.

Some of you may say, i not having any problems. True. But, its not you. It the others out their that are. I read it in other forums and stores that I go to, as well as people I know that work at other carriers. 2.2 is still new. Not standard install in most of the android phones. it 2.1.

Hope this helps.

In regards to Android 2.2, I still haven't been given an exact date on the release for it. I know we are testing it to see its compatibility and functionality. We will have an announcement on Facebook this Friday which will have more information.

Not sure how long USCC can keep using the excuse of always being behind the times as "we're doing it for you." USCC does "extensive testing" of all their phones, yet continue to have lemons all the time (moto crush, lg 260, moto hint, etc.) So I guess all this testing really doesn't help. USCC waited 7 years from when it deployed CDMA until it went to EVDO. By the time they finally took advantage of the data capabilities on their network, CDMA became a dying technology. I just hope if and when they go to LTE, they don't wait another 7 years until the go to LTE Advanced. Based on past history, when USCC goes to LTE v2.0, the rest of their competitors will be at 5.0. 😕

Yeah that is what I hinted at through the sarcasm of my previous post. There never seems to have been a time when USCC was late getting something that wasnt "due to extensive testing".

Now I am not to suggest that USCC doesnt do testing at all (even though they still have lemons anyway). I know they do. Nor am I suggesting their testing is not of good quality- It probably is. But I don't like how USCC associates suggest (or flat out say) their testing is more extensive than others (and the reason for delayed releases). They may have been told that by the company, but is there any proof of that claim? If pressed for it, could any USCC sales associate show specific proof that their testing is better than others? I doubt it.

I don't k...

That was a good post. You do have a good point. But, one thing. Most carriers did not put out 2.2 on all their phone yet. And USCC will have it out soon. Maybe a month or two. But, not so late like others are saying. USCC have been getting better on phones. The one thing that pist me off. So, give them a break sometime.

HTC hasn't even released 2.2 to uscellular. There will be an announcement tomorrow on facebook. Us cellular doesn't have anything from htc or samsung so us cellular isn't testing anything.

They expect froyo by the end of the year, they are shooting for november but we know how that goes.
