Any of you insiders have a list of who's gonna get EVDO in their market and when?

I know some of us are waiting with heavy anticipation.

Expectations have been set that EVERY market will have it late Spring early summer 2010

I am aware that this is the case. Just wondering if there are more specific time frames for individual markets...

I'd love to know when STL is getting it. We have been told early next year, but only as a general ballpark timeframe. We've been told to look at it from a point of view that we need to sell more data phones to be sure that we get it in a more timely manner. I'm sure tired of having potential customers walk out b/c we don't have EVDO though.

I think it's actually the other way around. You will sell more data phones when EVDO (high speed)opens up. It's hard to sell a phone when you demonstrate the internet and it runs like a 56K modem, especially if the customer can go to a competitor and get high speed right now.

I get what you are saying, that we will sell more once we do have EVDO. The point I was making though is that our leaders have told us to sell more data phones so that there is a more significant percentage of data revenue here to help ease the costs. It doesn't make too much sense to me either, but it's what we are being told. We ARE selling more data phones though, so it's exciting to see.

It still amazes me that huge markets like St. Louis still don't have USCC EVDO, while Cumberland, Maryland, and the rural area around it is completely saturated. I guess markets with less dense markets are easier, but still the big four carriers all began with metro areas when they rolled out their 3G networks. So I really don't even know..

There were several reports this week about US Cellular applying for $23.5 million in Federal Stimulus Money to put into our broadband expansion. Jack said that we have "shovels ready" to get things going as soon as the money is approved. Now, in the grand scheme of things $23 million isn't too much, but at this point I'd take ANY little thing that would help forward progress on the EVDO expansion. One of the cool things to note about the press release, is that it said the funds were to be for "mobile broadband upgrades to the EXISTING network," which can only mean EVDO. Exciting stuff!
