Data Plans

Okay I know this has been brought up before, but I have a new twist. Based on the information that I've seen about upcoming USCC phones, they're going to have the HTC Touch Pro. It has WiFi, and I would love to be able to use the internet on it, but I wouldn't wanna pay the monthly charge for it. So from what I've read I hear there's no way to not have that charge, and then the whole "if you're not gonna use it for its data, then why get it?". But I am going to use internet, but only over WiFi. 😁
And besides, my contact won't be up for another year, and I'm stuck with the ROKR which isn't even being sold anymore...

Yes the Touch Pro has WiFi, but no you won't be able to get it without the data package... If your contract isn't up however, its gunna run you a pretty penny unless you pay an early upgrade fee (esentially buying out the rest of your contract).

You have to get the data plan... I REPEAT YOU HAVE TO GET THE DATA PLAN...

My advice would be to get the phone and utilize the 30 day return policy. Like most people who try it, you will probably become hooked to the convenience and productivity of being able to have data anywhere not just at a hot spot.

I could never go back to a regular phone again.

the reason you have to pay the data service is so you can use those free features. It's more or less an access fee to all the phone's bells and whistles.

it makes sense. why have a smartphone without the smartphone data.

in the begining, when uscell brought out the 1st blackberrys you could get them without data packages. as time went on we realized the phones did not work properly without the data connection and users were not receiving all of thier incoming calls. we had created a resolution to that, but again as more research was done we found that less than 1% of customers with blackberrys were not using the data services. we found that most of that 1% were not happy with the blackberry and would have been better off with a non-smart phone anyway.

well said. I can't tell how many times I've gotten that question, and the answer hasn't, and won't change.
