Why does U.S. Cellular have to do this?

I want a BB or a Motorola Q because they have a full keyboard and all I do is text but USCC won't let you get one of them without a data plan. I think that is stupid. At&t won't make you get a data plan if you get a BB or any other smart phone. Why does USCC do this. Our bill is already $200/month. I don't want to get on the internet or send emails I just want to text.

At US Cellular, you are given a $400 discount on the phone. Since normal cell phones you are given $100-260 off the phone, they require the data package to prevent losing money on the customer. If you buy a used BB or smartphone, or buy one at retail cost, you might be able to prevent that from happening. If you are simply wanting a full keyboard to text, use the LG UX260...it comes in two color themes (black/blue, and white/silver) and has a full slide-out keyboard. I hope this helps!

That sounds like another excuse to force data on to the user. Just like we were told once that the phone would not connect to the network correctly with out it. These phones do need data to work but pay as u go data will work with them just be warned there is not way of blocking the browser on the phone. The problem is getting uscc to set it up.

Some of the regular phones have a bigger discount.
Moto v9m
$409.95 out right
-$210.00 2yr contract
-$ 50.00 39.95 plan
=$149.95 in store on contract price
Thats $260 in reabates

Where is this $400 discount at?
Moto Q
$399.95 out right
-$170.00 2yr contract
-$ 50.00 39.99 plan & up
=$179.95 in store on contract price
Thats $220 in rebates & the phone is cheaper to start with!

the discount has nothing to with the data service. you simply get the discount by signing the contract. the data is required by uscc because they want to make the extra buck. i dont totally agree with the "have to have data" on the account. i have sold many bb without data before it was "required" in fact if you buy a bb or q only for data you pay the full retail price on the equipment.

Why buy a phone that you have no intentions of using all of its capabilities? Get a 260. 🙄

ok, your wrong about at&t.

I had to make sure so i asked but
with at&t does not give the rebate unless DATA is included period. If you get it and then cancel in 3 months its ok (ie the rebate cost paid to them) and you will be place on pay as you go DATA at .01 per KB (OUCH don't touch those icons)

SO the phone is ALOT more at at&t since you lose 150.00 rebate.

Verizon makes you have data for all bb and required data to get 50.00 rebate

US Cell Does the same......

It is just how the ENTIRE industry works and until companies change others wont follow.

....sprint doesn't count no one cares about them..

All I have to say is thank you! 🙂

I don't care if I have to pay $500 dollars for the phone. I don't want the ux260 because it is a low end phone. Is there any way you can do pay as you go data for uscc. Or anything except paying 24.95 or 39.95?

Buying BB without data is like buying a computer with the software. BB are ment to use data then voice. That why USCC offers data only plans for people that only want to use it for emailing and internet use. and yes to make money. but, tell me this. Do you use most of the features in your current phone now?

this is exactly what the 260 is for it has a datebook for scheduling and has the exact same specs as the krzr except for the keyboard and it can support more mem.

The Blackberry is a data device first, and a voice device second. It will, on it's own, try to make a data connection. When it cannot connect on the data side, it creates false failures on the performance reports causing engineers to unnecessarily troubleshoot an area. I have personally taken part in this (seeing a report with over 2,000 failed data calls raises a few eyebrows). It wastes man hours and resources. This is just how the device works, not a flaw in the system. If someone is only interested in texting, this is way too much phone for you.

I understand what your saying. I don't care if it is to much phone all I wanted to know is why they do thus and if there was any solutions. I am obsessed with all the advanced electronics and would love to own a blackberry but now this is over. My question he been resolved. But I have one more and I just want it easily answered is uscc ever going to gsm?

Yes, only if USCC decides to continue with there plans to go with lte. But I would not expect to see any test markets for another 4-5 years at least.

No, a transition to GSM is not necessary in order to go to LTE. It can be done as an overlay, running both technologies simultaneously.

Honestly they should offer the phones without the data... Thats so pathetic that you would even want data on US Cellular 1X connection. It's bad!! My wifes pearl is crap compared to my sprint 8830.... She can't run any of the applications I can and she has to pay for data, which I don't as a SERO Customer... Plus I have nation wide and can force roam my phone onto a US Cell tower if I don't get a Sprint signal somewhere.... I get the best of all worlds! Don't go with USC, go with a real cell phone company, not some out of touch slow to respond (seriously shouldn't the get stuff faster since they are smaller and more agile!??), try sprint or Verizon, heck I may get an Iphone once the 3G comes out!
