Data Service

So I stoped by one of the local corp stores to ask some questions about my account including some about data and they had no clue what I was talking about.
I was trying to find out if they were allowing tethered usage yet. The rep had no idea what I was talking about I told her I wanted to use my phone as a modem she did not know and no one at the store could answer the question. There only suggestion was to call the small business lines and ask about "one of those cards".
I know tethering can be done & works & is allowed by most other carriers with the correct plan.

I also asked if they were testing or would role out EVDO this year and was told they has no idea on when it would be available or if it was even being tested.
I though I...

As far as tethering goes, it is possible..... but policy is that we do not allow customers to tether with the phone. I know of no such police that is checking that though..... Now as far as tethering goes, I wouldn't think anyone would want to tether unless you were in the Milwaukee market, which is where EVDO is currently being tested. Rumor has it that EVDO will be launched nation wide by the end of this year, but we've been hearing this for years..... I would recommend you get an air card for mobile internet. I recently got a Sprint Aircard under the SERO program.... (type in SERO sprint in google)... It's like 49 a month and I got the card for free.. It's fast. Until USCC gets the EVDO out I'm going to stick with this card be...

the rumor is that we will be deploying EVDO rev A in early 2009 to catch up with the current standards. As far as 4G US Cellular will wait to see standards and price fall before they go that direction. Probably no 4G till 2011+

The cards we are selling for data will upgrade to EDVO rev 0 and rev a so if there is a network change then you are set.

data cards are 59.99 mo with 2yr and 49.99 card through business services or a smart rep.

hope that helps...

Hey,

If you have a Blackberry, you might want to check crackberry.com. There are a couple of different threads on how to program your Blackberry to work around the USCC imposed limitations. I have been using it to fax directly off my all in one laser printer and it seems to be working pretty well so far.

In regards to tethering...

I know there is some excitement here on this "bypass" but be careful as the network engineers can cancel a phone for tethering, I HAVE seen it done a few times...it violates the Customer Service Agreement. Just a heads up for those who are interested in tethering.

Looks like a great plan and good prices on the equipment, too bad I am in an affiliate market so I don't qualify. ☹️
Thanks for the suggestion!

I may end up breaking contract between no evdo & 50/50 rule and the fact that I will be doing a lot of traveling for the next 6-8 months. That and bc of who I work for I get a discount on equipment & 20% off the monthly with vzw.

I have never had any problems with service and only a couple of minor issues with billing that they were always moor that happy to fix.

It seems to me that usc has really lost focus on what they us to stand for customer services, lowest churn #'s in the industry and having an innovative product.
Now it seems like they have taken the attitude of the bigger com...
