The one good thing I can think will result from this merger is Metro getting rid of that worthless, proprietary, uncompetitive, monopolistic, locked down CDMA technology. How that crap technology ever got started in the US is beyond me. I guess Qualcomm greased some palms to get their bulls**t going here. At least with GSM you won't have phones completely locked down to their network. The US getting set up on CDMA will have to go down as one of the biggest mistakes ever made in mobile phone history. Thanks goodness T-Mobile will convert Metro PCS to GSM and finally have a decent phone selection at decent prices.
China uses C-SIMS for their CDMA phones. Same principle as GSM but for CDMA. Youre right about Qualcomm. Then they got conveniently lazy to use C-SIMS further giving CDMA carriers the monopoly they wanted with their phones. Spread spectrum technology is great, but uses more power hence the CDMA phones using more battery power.
Hopefully C-SIMS come around to the U.S. otherwise all carriers going LTE would be the best route.
