is it possible to get a different area code then you are living in?

If I live in NY, would it be possible for me to get a LA area code?

Your address needs to match your area code, the people in NY would more than likely not have access to LA numbers. You would have to buy the phone where you want the area code to be or buy it from a national retailer (like Walmart) and activate it by calling *228 from the handset. The other problem you should expect is no one to have access to your account at the local level for things like, warranty exchange, esn change, etc.

Most likely you will be restricted to New York area codes. you could get a NJ area code if you go to Western New York And keep in mind if you decide to pay by credit card your address must match. So you could lie about your address that you so called live in LA, but then you wont be able to use your credit card. you will then have to pay cash only or use a prepaid credit card.
