'Ghetto' PCS?

Ok, I live in the Bay Area, and I want to like Metro (especially after you guys got the Nokia 6255), but what is up with your network?

My friend had you guys in the SF/Northern Peninsula area... his girlfriend was over for the everning, and he receives a text message. Its from his girlfriend. She looks at it and starts laughing and says, "OMG, I sent this to you TWO DAYS ago." Wha?

Are things going to get better with Metro, or is this just a case of 'you get what you pay for'? I currently am on Verizon and like it, but it's always nice to have good alternatives, just in case.

(btw, 'Ghetto PCS' is not my term... its what my friend now calls Metro)

I can't really comment on Metro's network. Other than I would imagine it should get better, they just bought up a lot of spectrum and licenses in Florida. It looks like they plan on trying to cover most of the state.

Anyways, what I really wanted to comment on was the "ghetto pcs". Most of the "all you can eat", no contract carriers, seem to get this stigma. I think it is due to the fact that it is no contract, so the people who have screwed up credit and do not pay there bills on time tend to be with these type of providers. Because they cannot go anywhere else.

You have to remember that these carriers built there networks from the ground up, they are not using the big carriers towers. They haven't been around for very long. ...

My friend doesn't call them 'GhettoPCS' because of the kind of customers that Metro services... he calls them 'GhettoPCS' because of the kind of service they gave him and his gf. ☹️

He wound up dumping them recently, and is now going with T-Mobile (contract). He's crossing his fingers that they will be better.

At first metro was ghetto, to be honest. They only had one phone, that crappy Kyocera that had a ton of defects. Now, I do have to agree they are starting to come up. I work for an exclusive Cingular agent, and I know a lot of customers (buisness customers) who use their Cingular phone for only out of state travel, but use thier metro phones for use in the area as their company phone simply for the unlimited use.

I do think that they are coming up i a big way. The coverage has gotten better, along with phone selection, most notable the 6255i showcasing as their high end feature phone. My only complaint is that I would like to see them get some motorola phones.

You also have to realize that by being the new guy on the block with a better product than any other carrier that other carriers are not willing to play nice. We have experienced slow response times (when it comes to txt messaging) between Metro and other carriers. No wonder T-Mobile is starting to take notice of MetoPCS

I live in Florida, and I have never had a dropped call or a delayed text message. If you have experienced that is because the network must be dealing with a lot of interference.

I second that notion. MetroPCS in my experience had SUPERB reception and overall service quality. I'm in South Florida myself.

I won't say I don't get dropped calls or delayed voicemails, but those are not commonplace.

your friend needs to turn his phone off once a week or day. Not doing so can cause a delay in text messages and voice mails. It can also cause your phone to send certain calls staright to vocie mail. Its not metro's service but his. All companies share this problem.

I am with TMobile and I leave my phone on all the time and I NEVER have that problem! It is only MetroPieceofShit's crappy service that is the cause of all this!

i noticed that when i txted my sister but i dunno how long metro has been around in the bay area but i live in detroit and it was just introduced here not too long ago, i know when there is high usage txts take a lil while to get thru and txts are not guareenteed to be instant, it goes thru the network then to the SMSC(sms center) then to the other users network then to their phone.

when there is a lot of traffic it can take hours or even days for a txt to get thru, but sms is not an instant technology

I had a nokia 6255i back in 05. I live nearby San Francisco and have excellent coverage. What was funny, when in San Francisco, my friends had Cingular and T-mobile, would have dead spots and I didn't. Their phones would say no service and had to use mine. Now, in 07, I have a Razr and it is the best phone carrier. Call it what ever you want- my friends pay on an average of $100-$200 on their plans (now 2 year contracts) where I pay only $48 (with taxes) for unlimited nation coverage, unlimited text and unlimited internet. The customer service got better compare to 05. You know some carriers are trying the unlimited thing- my wife has Sprint and has the unlimited plan for a particular region- which I still laugh when she gets her bill. She s...

You guys have to understand. These companies are nowhere near the size of aren't older than most of the bigger networks. There will always be dropped called in the world of cell phones. No matter what.Anyone on any phone carrier has had atleast 1 dropped call.Metro is doing it's best and there doing damn good. There flat pricing rate is keeping them in the game and is what is making their money. If smaller companies like Cricket and Metro would merge, the bigger companies would be in a load of you know what.
