I used the coverage map to determine if i can get service with virgin mobile at a certain location and it said there was none, but i was wondering if i buy a cdma 800/1900mhz phone from virgin, could it roam/use other cdma towers that use 800/1900?

Yes. They obviously have to have roaming deals.

on virgin mobile's site it stated "no roaming, so no roaming charges" sounds like they say there is no roaming capabilities at all.

Well, they are an MVNO that uses the Sprint network. Sprint has roaming agreements with Verizon, Alltel and others so I am not sure why it says they do not roam. That is strange why they would say that.

"Does Virgin Mobile coverage include roaming?
With Virgin Mobile, there is no roaming. No roaming means no roaming charges.

You can use your Virgin Mobile phone anywhere in Virgin Mobile and extended digital coverage areas across the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

If you leave our coverage area, all your text messages will be saved for up to 72 hours. Voicemail messages will be saved until you return."

i figured as long as the phone supports both 800/1900 then it would support other towers

Yea I know about that. Nonetheless, usually they all have some kind of roaming agreements. After further relooking into the matter and comparing the maps from both Sprint’s coverage map and Virgin’s, it looks like there is no roaming what so ever. You can see a big difference in coverage maps and the gaps in Virgin’s coverage vs. Sprint’s total coverage.

“i figured as long as the phone supports both 800/1900 then it would support other towers” That is what I also thought, but we are both wrong. You would think that it would have it even if they did not set up roaming agreements with Sprint and its roaming partners.

Answer; no roaming capabilities.
