Virgin for Data -> Laptop / Email

Is there a solution with Virgin Mobile for connecting a laptop to the interet using the phone as a modem?

I need this infrequently, but when I need it, I need it.

Actually not. It would only be used while travelling and when other cheaper options (internet cafes) were not available. For example, T-Mobile has a data option that costs $20 per month on top of the regular $40 monthly fee and other carriers have similar services.

I'm just wondering how you do this with a prepaid service like Virgin mobile.

I'm afraid to say that I did order a serial cable for my phone, and all I was able to do was control the phone from the computer, or write my own ringtones.

From what I understand, Sprint, as a whole, blocks data access to laptops and computers, because they're afraid of people overrunning their network. You CAN get such services from sprint, but they only offer very limited data access to a computer.

Unfortunately, this filters down to us prepaid users too.

On the plus side, you can get e-mail through the text messages. I think it's yourphonenumber@vgmobl.com You can also send, but again, the messages will be small. This works for most cell phone companies that offer text messaging. On Virgin Mobile, The messages are free to recie...

Well I was wondering did you order the cable for your Virgin Mobile phone? If so what phone and where did you get the cable? I really want to make my own ringtones but can't figure it out really.
