Is Sanyo coming with a non-camera phone?

I'm just wondering if Sanyo is going to be coming out with a new, color, non-camera, non-PTT phone any time soon? I want a solid phone with good reception, which I've heard Sanyo rules with. I also am not interested in a camera phone or PTT. Thanks.

Nokia is quickly gaining a reputation for Sanyo-like reception and voice performance. Their old CDMA phones (like two years ago) weren't so great, but now they have a 100% redesigned chipset, and their new CDMA models have been getting rave reviews.

I would suggest taking a look at the Nokia 3588i and see if that does what you want.

I've been hoping for a updated replacement for the 4900 but the one that's supposed to be replacing (7200 I think) it is a big dissapointment. Too bad Sanyo can't bring out a decent stylish candy bar phone without PTT or a camera.

and what is soooooo bad about having a camera or PTT of the phone?? sheese get on ebay and get a 5150 or something then.. I think the 5300 and the 8100 are damn good phone, even though they have a camera.. the 8100 looks a little more stylish though than the 5300. You dont HAVE to use the camera. I dont think sanyo will be coming out with just a plain phone anymore.

I don't mind having a camera but just want a good basic candy bar style phone from Sanyo that is good looking and small. The 4900 is too big. The 7200 doesn't impress me either. None of their phones have the sytle that the Samsungs, Nokias, etc have. I'm disappointed in Sanyo. The last phone that I liked from them was the 4000.

Well, there's no point in paying for features that I definitely won't use. Plus, generally, phones without PTT or a camera are smaller too.

Agreed. I think it's a mistake for Sanyo to ignore the segment of the market that just wants a basic candy bar style phone without extras that make it cost more and increase the size and weight. How about a new modernized version of the great SCP-4000 they used to sell?

Sanyo has no choice in the phones they produce. Sprint goes to them and asks for the phone they want. Sprint made a choice that ALL phones will have vision and PTT from now on, unlike the other carriers. The idea is that the prices will be comperable and you only use it if you want it.

That sucks. PTT adds size and weight to a phone so I think Sprint is making a mistake.

It really doesn't, I have seen the phones. The 5400 and 5500 are identical in size and smaller than my 8100. The 7200 is almost the same size as the 4900 i hear.

They just want everyone to have the option to use it, and it saves money to have less phones. The A660 i believe is a non PTT camera phone, it might be one of the last. Cameras will be hit and miss, but PTT should be all. It is nice to those that want it because it gives them a better selection instead of having to chose between PTT and Vision.

The only thing about PTT that would add any significant bulk/weight in theory is the speaker for speakerphone. But most phones these days already have the extra speaker - for polyphonic ringtones. Making the extra speaker work as a speakerphone is just an issue of speaker quality, microphone sensitivity, and echo/noise cancellation. Plus, speakerphone is a damn nice feature to have, even if you don't use PTT.

My thoughts exactly! and if he just wants a pretty basic phone, that is candy bar style and like the scp-4000 then I would go for the Sanyo 4700, He can probably get a good one off of ebay for pretty cheap.. Other than that he might just want to switch to nokia handset for just a basic cheap phone. neither of Sprint's Nokia's have Vision, Wireless Web, Camera's, or Readylink (PTT).

Sanyos are just not sleek and stylish enough for me. The 4700 was too big and the 7200 is not something that would interest me. So everyone can make all the excuses they want about Sanyos and hype them up but I and many others I know don't like them anymore. They need some changes in looks.

I think Sanyo's are more geered to business users, who don't want Teenage styled phones. I personaly think they look high tech, not Stylish.. Now the 7200 on the other hand, was suppose to give that Nextel phone look.. Basically I think that phone will be gear toward like construction worked, or anyone who does manual labor for a living, becuase it has a rugged durable look. and the 5400 look more business man like and high tech.

I think Sanyo Phones are great. and have definitly been shown to out perform most other handsets.

The Nokia 3588i is more to my liking but it's not Vision capable. Hopefully the 6225 will make it to Sprint. Too bad Sanyo doesn't offer a model that is similar in size or looks to those.

That 4000 series was one of the best selling series in history, i don't know who else hates them but quite a few love them.
