What's the best plan to sign up for a Treo 600?

I haven't been with Sprint in a long time and want to know if there any tricks to getting the best plan.

I ordered from Amazon, so I have to activate with Sprint to get my rebates.

I ordered 300 minutes plus Free and Clear America - isn't that the best way to take advantage of Verizon's coverage in outlying areas?

And I ordered Vision Professional package.

I don't understand why a couple of those items were more expensively priced that what I've seen discussed in these forums.

I also was going to do one year rather than two year contract. Do you think that's a good move?

Now, a question as far as phone number. When I bought a T-Mobile phone last year in Atlanta (n. Georgia) they had no problem giving me an Atlanta number ev...

Since you have the treo you will want the vision, that’s a given. As far as what kind of plan you need, that all up to you. How many min do you see your self using? Looking at past bills is the best way to see your calling habits. Start with a plan and then add options like vision, PCS to PCS, ERP (equipment replacement Program, Get this option. If you loose your phone or break it we will send you another one. It's only 4.00 a month and it's a whole lot better than buying a new treo for full price), 7pm night and weekend min, exc. You also mentioned roaming... it think. You said something about Verizon... If you need off network roaming (real roaming) you may buy bundles of them for 10.00 and they include 100 min you can use on some...

Great, thanks.

Any idea if Treo data (i.e, checking e-mail, web surfing) will work on Verizon's data network if I pay for Free and Clear America, and if so, does it come out of Vision minutes or F&CA minutes?

No your vision services will not work on anyome elses network, but you can place calls as long as you have a dual band phone, in your case you do.

I guess I'm about to call the 800 number and ask them to do this.

Boy, I'm scared.

The folks at the Sprint Store in Atlanta said they might be able to port a Boston # to Georgia, but that there was no way an 800-number rep would be able to do it.

Thing is, I suspect nobody at a Sprint store is going to bend over backward to do any favors activating the phone for me - since I opted to buy from Amazon.

Why should you be scared. Just call 1-888-211-4727 and tell them what you need. They are there to help and explain the entire process to you. They have taken hours of training and should know what they are doing. Beleive me I used to be a customer solutions rep. We started taking training over a year ago preparing for this. You don't have to go to the store to port in your number. You just have to make sure that where your wanting to port the number to and where the number is from is in the top 100 markets. Go get it done and make sure you let me know how it goes. 😁

Hmm. Well, I called number last night and went through the process.

I called to check this morning. Port is supposed to be at 2 pm tomorrow. But they said there was a code 7a request for information from Verizon. Don't know what that is.

Where I'm porting -from- is top 100 market.

Where I'm portin -to- is not - at least the way we did it last night. He only has my billing address in GA, not a separate "coverage address"

The CSR found an old sprint account I had years ago, and set it up as a renewal.

Man, I hope this works. I'm actually kind of excited about being back with Sprint, if they can pull this off.

First, check the rebate form to see if a discount is even available with a 1 yr. I know its a $150.00 discount with a 2yr. 2nd, Professional pack good if you are going to use the Business Connection to check email from your outlook. If not, then go with Pictures Pack since the Treo 600 has camera(for picture share and storage) and can download(pictures pack comes with $5 worth of downloads). As far as your number, get what you want. If S. Georgia wont give atlanta #, go to atlanta, or, call cust service to activate and request and atlanta #. If want to keep boston #, call cust care to port it in. I assume that Boston was in list of Top 100 markets.

Sorry. Bad news is, you cannot port Boston # and convert to Georgia#. The Sprint
associate(s) there must be smoking crack or something. They can port your number in to Sprint's system, but the number will remain a Boston #. An 800 rep CAN do this. You can also do it online if i am not mistaken. They really are smoking something!!! Unfortunately, depending on the rep, they may or may not bend over backwards. They of course, work on commission. GODD LUCK!!!! 😁

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I was kind of hoping you were around to tell me what's what!

I don't think I typed what I meant very clearly.

Hell, I don't care if it remains "a Boston number." Fine by me - just as long as it gets moved to Sprint! All my clients are around the country - I could give a rat's #$# whether it's a local number.

I was just worried about Sprint denying the port because my Verizon billing address for the Boston number is now in GA.

So, if I call 800 number and say:

1. Hi - I'd like to activate my phone!
2. I'd like to port my Verizon wireless # 617-xxx-xxxx
3. My billing address is "blah, blah, blah, Georgia."

They're not gonna freak on me?

From what the other guy said, I could offer them...

Porting is the biggest pain in the *** I've ever encountered. All carriers, in your case, Verizon, will regect a port if info does not match. Now, its fixable, but delays the porting process. I have seen ports rejected bc the initial was entered with a period and the other carrier had it without!!!! RIDICULOUS!!! I'm sure Sprint is probably doing the same thing though. Try to keep the information alike and the porting process will be fine. What I would do is call verizon and change your billing address with them to GA address first, then when you set up with Sprint, go ahead and set up on the GA address, that way info matches, and you dont risk have sprint bill sent ot Boston.

Amazingly, after all my worry.... the port went through. It took a few hours longer than predicted - but it worked!

In fact, I was very fortunate in that it even came through as a Boston plan rather than a GA one - a non-affiliate plan and therefore better FC&A terms. It really couldn't have worked out any better.

Your suggestion was a good one, though.

The good news was that my Boston number was already set up with the GA billing address - which may explain why there wasn't a problem.

I appreciate your follow-up very much, though!
