I worked for Sprint just after they launched service in Houston in 1998. I had them till 2002, and am currently trying to go back now. Network wise sprint pcs in Texas it great. Both companies are CDMA so they will have some of the clearest cellular calls you can get, a big advantage to CDMA is soft-handoffs... when you switch towers the towers actually "communicate" in a way to each so that before a tower lets you go the other one has your call first. TMDA and GSA (to the best of my knowledge) used hard-handoffs were as the tower drops you momentarly and in theory the other tower will "catch" you... Sprint now has a larger Digital and Analog network than Verizon.

Sprint uses CDMA2000 whereas Verizon uses first generation CDMA. Sprints data works better and faster, and cell shrinkage is less during peak hours of the day.

Sprint also now has 7pm n/w.

Are you smoking Crack? Sprint has a much smaller network. Digital and Analog. Also, VZW has all of their digital network running on 1XRTT (CDMA2000) and is upgrading to EVDO. Data speeds on both networks are boasting faster speeds. I use both carriers and get a much better signal traveling with my VZW phone and also much faster data speeds with VZW. In case you're asking why I have both, waiting for LNP to change Sprint # to VZW. Sprint does have 7pm N&W's, but that's the only thing I agree with you on.

Ive officially made the switch to Sprint and picked up the Sanyo 5500 (VM4500) from Verizon Wireless.. I get the same signal and I love the phone..Im glad i made the switch, but I thing i like better is Verizons Customer Service... (I'm waited for almost 25 hours to get my number ported from Verizon) but they assure that it will be done today.. But besides that everything else is excellent.. I LOVE SPRINT ! ! !

I second that deathgnr. I dont fly coast to coast i drive coast to coast. Im a truck driver and with my f/c america plan i dont worry about roaming, long distance, or a SIGNAL! I digital or analog roam when there is no sprint tower at NO CHARGE! Also when i do have a sprint tower near my services work THE SAME no matter where i am. Verizon do that? I DONT THINK SO!

As a Verizon user, I agree with you on most things, for a friend of mine uses Sprint and has excellent service as well. But when we've travelled together...sometimes he'll have a signal when I don't, then I'll have a signal when he doesn't. The only thing I need to correct you on is that when I have roamed onto Sprint's network, I DO NOT get charged a roaming fee, where in the past I have heard when a Sprint user roams onto Verizon's network, they are charged. Now this may have changed and may not be true anymore of Sprint, but this is what I've seen people say on this site or the old usenet. Otherwise from what I've seen, Sprint does have good service and a nice selection of phones.

Finaly a lone voice of wisdom. you wouldnt have people get all upset on either sides if people that didnt have toys when they were kids would stop doing the my phone is better than your phone type stuff.I was showing my niece my phone she just came back from college. she has verizon and she started sounding just like a sales rep. Verizon has very good service and coverage. same with sprint. the reason why i go with sprint cause i am a tech junkie. I too found it great to read something not trying to pound a party line for this or that carrier or technology. I'm a Sprint convert, but that isn't to say the other carriers and technologies don't have their good points. Of course they do. It's nice to hear from a Verizon user who says the same.

Sprint has the largest PCS network that was built from the ground up. That means they're comparing themselves to noone, since Verizon has built their network from the ground up, from acquisitions, and from roaming agreements. The VZW network is much larger than Sprint, and covers an extra 30 million people in the USA. Pure fact, my friend.

Sprint does not have a 3G network. Noone does, not even Japan who are probably about 4 years ahead of the USA in cellular communications technology. Verizon has acquired other smaller companies and cell sites, as I said, but they have spent a ton of money upgrading and building new sites as well. They just built one, from the ground up, not more than 2 or 3 miles from my house. They have been BUILDING several sites on the west coast.

To say all they do is purchase small sites is ludicrous. It holds as much water as saying Sprint has the largest national network.

Sprint has the most wireless licenses (251 million people i belive), but hasn't built out those areas yet, and probably will sell the lisences before doing that... cold hard, quick cash for Sprint.

With all of this talk about the Cingular/AWS or TMobile merger, it could be a possibility of a Sprint/VZW meger is the dominant CDMA carrier. That would be paradise, I think...

First obvious question is: How does Sprint have the largest network? It doesn't.

Second obvious question is: How can Sprint have a 3G network? It's impossible, from a technical and financial standpoint. 2.0 mbps at the end of the year? Please. They don't even have phones that can handle EV-DO or EV-DV yet, and those data transmission speeds are nowhere near 2.0 mbps, more around 500kbps burst.

Third obvious question: CDMA2000. It's a word thats been bumped around, kind of like calling mobile phones "cell phones." Calling CDMA2000 the same thing as 1XRTT is common, as well. Cellular phones run on the 800mhz band (called "cellular") only...in other words, old school dual mode phones. CDMA2000 is officially the na...

1xRTT is just the internet capability of a service, nothing else.
1xEV-DO is not CDMA2000, it is just 'high speed' internet capability for wireless.
The same goes on the GSM side... GPRS is just the internet ability, EDGE is the 'high speed' internet ability (which EV-DO will blow out the window).
CDMA2000/UMTS is where everyone will be eventually rolling towards. Eventually.

Verizon has been quick to the draw, but slow to roll out, due to their massive network...
Sprint has been able to roll out quicker, but hasn't even made any vocal statements on their 3G plans.
