computer hookup

I'm wondering what would be involved in using my Sanyo 4900 to hook up to my Mac Powerbook for cellular surfing. Is anyone familiar with this? Is my phone even capable / compatible? How does one learn what phones are good for this and which ones aren't? The local Mac guy here says that Sprint does do this, but doesn't know much more. Any ideas / helpful hints?

Thanks

I would be careful doing this. You can do this and use your phone as a modem, but Sprint is watching how much download content you have.

Stacky, the others are right. Unless you want to send an occassional fax or two, don't waste your time. This is what will happen, when you are connected, after a few minutes, the network realizes what your doing and will cut you off. When you use the phone as a modem vs. Vision, you're pushing way more data(bits) than Vision and it senses that. If you were to continue to do it, expect a call from Sprint and they'll tell you you need to buy a PCS connection card. When Vision first launched, Sprint was selling the data cables/software for $70 in the stores. They quickly realized the booboo and pulled from the shelves. Why? Why would someone buy their cards of you could use your phone/cable/software and your $15 Unlimited Vision plan i...

Thanks for the info.

In looking over the reviews for the Sony Ericsson T608 (Sprint's only Bluetooth phone) I noticed that one reviewer (t608girl) said she used the Bluetooth to connect to her G4 Powerbook and surf. That's just the ticket, but she left no further information, including how well it really worked or whether she got caught by Sprint or not. To make matters worse, I can find no information about the price of the T608, and Customer Service said I'd have to go to a store to get it while my local store said I'd have to get it online.

Meantime, I continue to lust after the SCP-5500 or SCP-8200.

the T608 sold out in 2 days because they only had 10,000 made, min per development contract w/ sony, they sold for 199.99 through telesales only, if you want one now they are selling 250-300 on e-bay but I would rather have any sanyo or the toshiba 4050, oh wait I had a 608, it sucked, returned it for a toshiba, a ton better signal and battery life.

Tbe Treo 600 is a good phone and you can use the unlimited plan to surf the net. I do all the time and they can't do anything about it.

that is logically impossable you would need a cellular provider for cellular surfing

since sprint is not cellular but pcs it is not possable

but in all seriousness yes it is possable if you have the right equipment and software. however, it is not allowed with in your terms of service with sprint and tecnically you are violateing your service agreement

Too bad you're not with TMobile--unlimited GPRS internet access for 19.99 as an add on to voice service, or 29.99 as a stand alone with an air card for your 'puter.

yes if you only want a 28.8 kb/s connection as an added on 19.99

where as with sprint you get 144 kb/sec as an added on feature for 15$

hmmm pay more for less speed hey not a bad idea you could make a killing off it
