Planning to leave Sprint, any advice?

Ok, this isn't one of those hate on Sprint things. I like Sprint, I really do.

Unfortunately I live in an area not covered by Sprint. On their maps it's a huge white hole. I've got by with an Airave for the past 3 years (that they made me pay for) but I just can't handle it anymore. I have 4 lines total, the other 3 live a couple of hours from me. They at least have voice service and even though it's green on Sprint's map data crawls at 0.01kbps.

In the past, every time I've talked to Sprint about this they've said they will let me out ETF free. What's the best way to ensure this is done properly. Also is there any best time relative to my billing cycle? I want to do it in the middle of this month and my cycle runs I believe ...

If you live in a no coverage area, you need to provide valid documentation that you live there (electric bill in your name or similar) and return your equipment in order to have your ETF waived. Also, per their terms of service they do not prorate if you cancel services. So if your bill period ends on June 27th, you will pay for plan charges until this date (even if you port your numbers out).

Interesting. I hadn't heard of having to return my equipment. I may put up a fight on this one. I can sell my iPhone 4S for more than the $100 my ETF is. I've paid 3 years and have maybe been able to use 1GB during that whole entire time due to their incredibly slow speeds. I'll call 'em up tomorrow and see what they say.

It is a matter of equipment discounts. You received a device discount, this is why you have a contract (likely anyways). They make a profit and recover discount provided by you either A) completing your commitment or B) paying your ETF. They will have you return the phones if you want your ETF waived. Trust me, I'm sure. There is no benefit to the company if a customer signs up in May 2012 and moves into no coverage in July 2012 and the company waives the ETF but allows customer to keep the phone. Anyways, you may find more of a benefit to keep your phone, pay your ETF and then sell the phone yourself.

Yeah, that's what they told me. I explained I'd be ok with that if I had recently moved here but the fact that I've paid full service price for the past 3 years while being able to only use my phone away from home I'd expect some sort of discount. Also, the other 3 lines are in a different location and that has absolutely terrible data service. Sprint never acknowledged it until recently, stating it's because there's one tower that services the entire town. This leads to consistent 3G speeds of between 0.01 and 0.05 Kbps.

If I have to pay the ETF, fine, but I'm hoping that my payments over the last 3 years when receiving terrible service will help cover it. One of their managers, Kristen, SHOULD be calling me back later today.

I called again for clarification and such.

I think some phones I'll send back and some I'll sell, depending on their market value.

I really hate having to mess with all this but not being able to use my phone is a big issue.

I have two questions: How were you able to subscribe to Sprint in the first place? No wireless carrier will sell you service in an area they don't cover. Also, why would you want to? Roaming is great when you're traveling, but not 24/7.
