Re: Direct Connect Call Alert Suggestion

I tried it between our two Sprint Direct Connect phones (Kyocera Torques). You are correct, if one phone is in-process on a regular phone call, the incoming Call Alert is completely ignored, and the Call Alert sender gets a message that the Call Alert recipient is not available (code 310).

I did notice that if there was a Call Alert message on the display (i.e. an as-yet-unacknowledged Call Alert) and that phone receives an incoming regular phone call, after the regular phone call is ended, the Call Alert remains on the receiving phone's display, and can be answered via DC reply (if the phone's Call Alert timeout has not yet expired).

Three other non-favorable behaviors of our Torques relative to Call Alert:
1) You can't change the tone for a Call Alert. You can change the reminder frequency & timeout period, but you can not change the Call Alert tone.
2) You can not create a customized text message to send along with your Call Alerts, you can only choose from the list of preset texts built into the phone.
3) When receiving a Call Alert, one of the options says "Press speaker button to voice call". When I press the speaker button on top of the phone, it just gives a busy signal

I suppose issue # 3 above could be because we retained our original Nextel DC numbers...perhaps the Call Alert voice call option exists only if the receiving phone uses its regular telephone number for its DC number. Still, both phones KNOW that there is a Nextel DC number for DC and a regular phone number for voice calling, and it should know to route all voice calls to the regular number.

I'm still not happy with the overall performance of Sprint Direct Connect on CDMA. So many times one or both of our SDC phones go into a mode where they refuse to do DC (even with decent voice signal bars and the 3G indicator lit up). It takes a restart of one or both of the phones, and even after that, at times one phone can not initiate a DC call until after it has received an incoming DC call. Nextel's iDEN DC was vastly more reliable for us than SDC is, we never had these bizarre DC connectivity issues with Nextel, but we have them daily with SDC. I can only hope that when Network Vision is completed in our area, these frequent & frustrating SDC problems are corrected.
