Forum tools and their useless advice

gloopey1

Hey, my username is xyz and I just want to let everyone know how terrible my experience was with this carrier. I experienced frequent dropped calls, poor coverage, slow data speeds, and nobody ever helped me in customer service.

I finally changed to my current carrier and couldn't be happier! Everyone should listen to me even though you don't know who I am or if I ever even had the service I claimed to.

In fact, I'm probably some spoiled teenager who stumbled across this forum by accident. My only objective in life is to own the latest and coolest phone while trashing on others I deem less worthy. I measure the success of a company by how much money they make and Internet forums rather than on what well-established consumer agencies re...

Agreed. What is even worse is the lack of interest on any of these forums. I blame the anonymity factor for the rampant dishonesty here. When people are allowed to secretly tell the world how they feel with no fear of consequences, anything goes.

Hmmm - creating what amounts to an anonymous gripe about others' posts is, well, just another gripe by just another anonymous poster, isn't it?

It's a simple exercise in adult thinking to separate the wheat from the chaff.

It's a simple exercise in maturity to ignore that which you feel is not of value to you.

Your post is, to me, a case of almost useless chaff. However, you have given the opportunity to point out how hypocrisy is alive & well in all corners of the earth, and how logic can escape a certain portion of the population.

Feel free to ignore this post.

Actually, I have come to the conclusion you are probably a spam bot. Maybe the mods should have one of those little tests with the weird numbers you have to identify before using the forum. By the way, I am ignoring you. This is an auto generated response.

a little edgy. Negative comments about Sprint got you down? Perhaps you should stop trying to be the saving face for Sprint on a forum where it doesn't matter, you'll live longer.

Yes. I would say you have definitely rattled a few cages with this post. There is an old saying that claims: if you throw a rock into a pile of dogs, the one that yelps the loudest is the one that probably got hit.

Wow. I'm surprised that anyone is siding with the poster called "gloopey1"...a poster that immediately attacks anyone with anything to say that he/she construes as possibly negative to Sprint's reputation...a poster that gives only opinions, devoid of any supporting information to back up his/her opinions, and when challenged on his/her nonsensical retorts will simply respond with further irrational retorts, never having supplied supporting evidence of any kind.

Astonishing.

All I can say is, good luck with that.

What surprises me is how anyone can think they should be able to troll internet forums without criticism. By the way, the weakest argument a person can make is one that includes statements like not a shred of evidence or your argument is without foundation. These are all statements anyone can make regardless of what reality says. The reality here is you quote from websites that have been in business less than ten years and have close to no credibility. I on the other hand rely on trusted sources like Consumer Reports. Your opinion and mine are basically useless in the grand scheme of things. I would merely ignore you and others like you but someone along the way needs to be the one to regretfully inform you how ridiculous and useless your so...

I agree with your viewpoint that anonymity provides a cloak for would be forum abusers; however, I think your criticism was too harsh. I believe he has had genuine issues with Sprint and is merely venting his frustrations about it. I choose not to take that approach for the reasons you stated.

Your assessment is wholly inaccurate, your accusations without merit. You are confusing the high standards of wireless carrier performance that I have (courtesy of my experience with Nextel prior to the buyout by Sprint) with "trolling" as you so love to put it.

I do indeed post when Sprint is screwing up in my experience, but I also give Sprint credit where it is due (check the posts over time, my friend, if you dare). It's not my fault that Sprint happens to be screwing up more than they get right.

I don't "troll" ("troll" as you so frequently & vehemently use that word, seems to be "Gloopey-speak" for anything that calls-out Sprint for occurrences of poor performance or questionable actions), but neither am I afraid to call a spade ...

I wonder, could you please explain to your public exactly how you can say that a current Sprint customer, who has been with Nextel & Sprint continuously since 2002, equates to "He hasn't had Sprint for awhile"?

No rush, just whenever you have a spare moment in your busy day...given that you apparently are the only person alive who is both great enough and magnanimous enough to defend all of Sprint, as well as police all of Phonescoop's forums, sniffing out and attacking all postings & posters that you perceive to denigrate Sprint. Whew! That must take all of your time. But...

Answer me this: when you supposedly had those Duramax phones, what happened if you attempted to DC someone from a different entry on their contact?

If you store a Sprint DC number without the astericks on the "DC Only" setting instead of "Mobile +DC, what happens?

Did the phone have a call alert queue?

If someone beeps in while on another DC call, what does the phone do and say?

What did the other DC ringers sound like? How many were there? Could you change t...

Ooooh! A test! How fun! Of course, it proves nothing, but just for the entertainment value, see the embedded answers below.

BTW, I'm answering these cute little "not a spambot, not a troll" questions for you relative to our Kyocera Torque phones, the ones we got last month when we switched our remaining two Nextel lines from iDEN to CDMA. Possibly your challenge to me goes back to the DuraPLUS phones we trialed in May 2012, but, again, those were all defective and they were returned to Sprint and our Nextel lines were re-activated on the old iDEN handsets, and we remained purely iDEN customers until last month.

1) Answer me this: when you supposedly had those Duramax phones, what happened if you attempted to DC someone from a differen...

Actually, I think most of the respondees to my OP have illustrated my point way better than I ever could have.

People who aren't forum tools agree rather than disagree with the OP. Someone else said the guilty dog always barks first. I think what he or she said neatly sums up the majority of the stupid, self-indicting comments that followed after.

Weren't you the first one yapping and claiming that cellphonesaretools was creating false claims against the most important company in your life? You made this thread in particular to one person in general.

You both have now swung your sticks at who knows what about Sprint/Nextel. Which was a waste of screen ink, by the way.

The majority here still knows and will continue to post that Sprint sucks.

Indeed...I guess it's easier to throw down a challenge and disappear than it is to respond to the same challenge reflected back...but that long silence by "g" sure was a nice respite.

Let's not prod the "g-bear" any more, it's much better when he/she is hibernating. Shhhh ;-)

Now it's YOUR turn to answer some questions:

a) In addition to your new-found expertise with Sprint Direct Connect, exactly which iDEN handsets have you used in your long career as a Nextel basher & Sprint fanboi, er, Sprint customer extraordinaire?

My company issued me a yellow & black i530 in 2003. Since then, I've also used an i576, which was replaced recently with a DuraXT.

b) How does one activate Trace Mode on the Falcon series of iDEN handsets?

Never tried on my other phone, but to do so on the i576, you hit *, #, menu, right.

c) How does one determine the GPS coordinates for the current location of the handset itself?

By selecting GPS from the ma...

@gloopey1:

Fair enough. Not sure if you got the answers on your own or got help, but either way, close enough and fair enough.

You are more of a Sprint person, while I am more of a Nextel person, and never the twain shall meet. That said, with the impending demise of Nextel, our household chose to switch from Nextel and go all-in with Sprint (including converting an existing Verizon line to Sprint in addition to converting the existing Nextel lines)

You've made posts over the years bagging on Nextel and posts defending Sprint, while I've made posts defending Nextel and posts bagging on Sprint. We both have our reasons.

Although I'm sure we'll always disagree on the relative merits of the Sprint Way versus the Nextel Way, I call ...

Yeah, we ran off the rails there for a bit, hopefully back on a positive track for good.

It would be nice if we could all put our heads together and work together to post a list of "PTT Tips, Proper Usage & Etiquette", or something like that. You know, a collection of do's, don'ts, and ways to use SDC effectively.

Not that I think there will be much growth in PTT, unless maybe the other US carriers get as good as NDC & SDC, and if they all agree to establish cross-carrier PTT. But it would be nice if any & all old-timer DC u...
