Sprint Dura XT

I recently purchased one through a retailer. So far, I'm very happy with the performance compared to Nextel. I also had purchased a Moto Renegade in 2008. Although both use the same platform, here are the differences:

1. The new PTT has way better battery life. Two full days of use compared to just one. This was how my old i90 performed.

2. Better coverage due to roaming. I now can use my DC anywhere I use the regular phone. The V950 was confined to 3G areas and my i90 to network only coverage. It takes three seconds to connect when in a 1X area.

3. This version of Sprint DC has the familiar roger beep at the end of a transmission rather than the annoying bonk the first generation had.

4. Sprint's horrible one click menu is no mo...

Thanks for the post, jrfdsf.

I'm expecially interested in two aspects:

1) How is the speakerphone, both for PTT calls & for regular voice calls in speakerphone mode? The DuraPlus (Kyocera's SDC bar-phone model) was introduced with severe speakerphone defficiencies & inconsistencies. See Eric Zeman's review of the DuraPlus a few months ago, and comments posted thereafter—an excerpt and the links are pasted below. We had the same problem with the two DuraPlus models we tried, both had the terrible speakerphone defect and had to be returned. Thank goodness back then Sprint would still reactivate iDEN phones, so we're still using the wonderful Moto i365 until Sprint can correct the early Kyocera deficiencies.

2) Did Kyocera fix the "Two...

The speakerphone and ringers are ear-splitting.

The one touch DC is just that. You must set it that way though.

One thing I dislike is that call alerts sound weak. Incoming sounds the same, but outgoing is a faint beep.

I ran out of characters to type, so here are the items not included:

1. The most recent software update allows picure sending directly from photos. According to Eric's review, his model would was not capable of doing this without opening the messaging client first. It is also unnecessary to first choose the messaging mode as it was with previous Sprint phones. Attaching media automatically converts an SMS message into an MMS, with 1000 characters of type available.
2. As I mentioned in a previous post, Kyocera fixed the two touch issue of earlier DC phones. The unit can now be set to instantly connect you without a preliminary touch to awaken it ...

jrfdsf,

Thanks for the detailed review—a lot of good info and very much appreciated, especially coming from a long-time, intelligent, objective, Nextel iDEN user like you.

Do you happen to know, if we keep our original iDEN-style PTT "fleet" numbers (for example 123*45678*2, ~*3, ~*4, etc), can we still just press the "member number" (e.g. 2 or 3 or 4) on the number pad and then press the PTT button to direct-connect with coworkers, without having to enter more numbers or highlight them in the Contact list? I assume by your #3 above ("One Huge Con") that the intra-fleet shortcuts to PTT coworkers is not within the SDC feature set?

Thanks again, great info and much appreciated.

When I had the Renegade in 2008, that didn't work; however, you can place DC numbers on speed dial locations. In other words, if your network and fleet number is 123*45678, you could assign 2, 3, 4, etc. in corresponding speed dial locations.
