Being first isn't always a good thing. I believe WiMAX was definitely not the right path for Sprint Nextel's 4G network. Globally as well as domestically speaking, LTE whips the llama's ass (as Winamp puts it) when it comes to 4G deployment Sgt Joker. This is one of the reason's why Dan Hesse, the Sprint Nexel CEO, doesn't want to see at&t absorb T-Mobile. 79% of not only the voice network/market(GSM) will be dominated by them and Verizon Wireless, but the data one(LTE) will be too. Why do you think 1xEVDO Rev B was abandoned? You got it, WiMAX. If Sprint Nextel ends up going LTE, which I sure they will once Steven Elfman sniffs the Columbian Jaun Valdez Gold, there will be a bunch of POed customer who have already purchased 3/4G devices and live outside the WiMAX established footprint of Clear who won't ever see the light of it simply because LTE will be deployed instead.
