Today I went into a Sprint store to see about activating a line with Sprint and I was informed that I owe Sprint around $650.00 from a few years back from an early termination fee and a device not being returned within the 30 day cancellation range. I was told b/c of this that in order to activate an account with Sprint I would first have to pay the full amount that I owe, then apply for the account in the store and possibly put down a security deposit on the account. I was wondering if anybody who works for Sprint could possibly tell me how much of a security deposit am I looking at b/c of my situation? Also my credit score is below 600 so will that make a huge difference in how much I will have to lay down in order to activate a line? If a...

Sprint would have to give you an exact number, but with my credit (it's around average), I pay $50.00/line. I've seen deposits as high as $200.00 per line, they might go higher.

If you require a deposit, from my experience Sprint's default requirement for service if you've owed them money in the past is $250. I did have someone the other day who paid off an old acct and then setup new service without a deposit because they had great credit tho. In your situation I'd assume the $250 and if it's less than great.

Also tho I've been seeing situations where Sprint has just flat denied people service recently. So I'm not gonna lie and say that's not a possibility. They are working hard to avoid what happen to them 4-5 yrs back by getting stuck with a lot of sub-prime customers. No offense meant in that.

Sprint's ASL (Account Spending Limit) program is what allows customers to have very low, if any, deposits. It's the same principle as a person with poor credit getting a credit card with a low spending limit and high interest rate.

That said, Sprint also attracts a lot of ghetto customers with questionable credit. I can personally attest to this phenomenon as it happens every day in my own store.

LOL I know what you are saying about Sprint having alot of Ghetto Customers everytime I go into a Sprint store. I was just trying to figure out what I would have to pay deposit wise. I was actually just in the local Verizon Store and found out if I wanted to I could activate a line with them with no deposit required. So I dunno what Im gonna do.

If you can afford it...pay off Sprint either way, it's just going to help your credit. Beyond that initial setup, Sprint is usually cheaper, all other things being equal.

I was thinking about selling my iPhone 4 on ebay and paying them off. My only concern is if they turnn around after I pay them off and tell me they wont let me open a line with them.

So today I went into my local Sprint store and paid off my outstanding bill that I had with them. Luckly they allowed me to activate a line of service without a deposit, so I am now happy to say that I am a Sprint customer once again. WooHoo! I ended up getting a white HTC EVO with the everything thing plan for $69.99 a month.

What you should do..

If it's been a couple of years, credit department for sprint usually waives it, DEPENDING on your history of payments and such and such..go into your sprint store and see if they can do that.

You're deposit could range anywhere from $0 to $250 per line.

Just because you have bad credit does not always mean you will have the highest deposit.

Hope that gives you some what of an idea.
