Russ specifically talks about phones like the Evo on the $30 SERO plans down in the comments. If this is actually true, I might be switching from BB to an Android device. I'm just not sure I want to pay $120-$240 a year more. Regardless, I'm glad that Sprint is considering this.

If you read farther down, it says

"Jeff,

Thanks for your comment and your long time loyalty to Sprint.

I understand your frustration. I have family members in a similar situation. But the reality is:
a) Sprint offers the best value with our current plans for those that want to do more than just talk.
b) In the past, before smartphones became such data hogs (driving high network costs for Sprint), Sprint offered even more generous plans.
c) We’ve been gracious to not force those customers (including you and my family members) onto more expensive plans, but have allowed them to keep their existing plans.
d) However, we aren’t going to make our problem worse by putting into their hands devices that are likely to drive sig...

that's why they would add the additional charges for SERO subscribers to upgrade to a data-centric device.

The comment you posted is in reference to someone who isn't on SERO, but is on a different Legacy plan.

here's what i read to SERO customers only.

"Elliot,

I’ve heard that existing SERO customers will be able to upgrade to a premium plan that will allow upgrading to iconic devices. I haven’t heard the same for F&F, so doubt that one’s true. More info should be coming at sprint.com/everythingplus soon.

Note - this will only be for existing SERO customers.

Russ"

Thank you for being so gracious to answer all of our questions. Y

Sprint has stated several times, and it is listed in our internal documents, that they are restricted the Sero (and many other employee plans) from the premium data phones. I really don't see this changing, due to reasons given above.

It's posts like this that draw calls from customers asking for the '$30.00 plan' they read about online. Thanks a lot!

On another note, these people don't even seem to understand the plans. A $10.00 Evo charge on top of a $10.00 premium data charge? They're the same charge, it's not an extra $20.00 for owning an Evo. I don't figure that people who don't even know the current plans are talking plan modifications and special deals.

You realize that this guy... who writes the blog... is the VP of strategy for the company right?

The charge for the 'premium data plan' is to compensate for the anticipated increase in data usage for a more data-centric device, like the Palm Pre.

The charge for the EVO is for the upgrade to 4G.

These are in fact not the same charge...

The $10.00 buy-up is in fact NOT for 4G. It is for premium unlimited data that the EVO and Epic will consume. Yes, they are 4G capable devices, but the charge is for the fact that these device use much more data.

The Palm Pre did not have an additional 'premium data plan' either. I'm sorry, but I am unconvinced.

I s'pose we'll find out for sure on Oct. 1. I'll give it a shot when the time comes, and if it doesn't, it doesn't.

But you also can't get it (as I understand it) on a Sero plan because of the amount of data it will consume.

So on the Sero plan it COULD require extra data and the evo could be on top of that even.

Remember, Sero plans were made at a time when the biggest data hogs were blackberries.

"Why the hostility anyway?"

Have you ever worked in a retail store or a call center? Years of doing so can have an effect such as this. When I was reading Kayslay34's response I was thinking: "Such charisma!" LOL

Actually yea... I was an Asst. Store Manager in a retail store for 3 years. 😛

I do understand the frustration with people that take their SERO for granted, and want the moon with their Evo, but I was careful not to word anything in any of my posts in a fashion that would suggest I felt that way. At least I thought so... 😉

I was being facetious, not actually blaming it on you. The Sprint forums on their own website have enough posts about the expired plans to drive customer calls all day long.
