Crazy/Dumb question

I have a Blackberry 8530 on Sprint. The other day my battery got so low that I couldn't connect to a Sprint signal. Gave me a message like, battery to low for radio, so basically my phone was useless. Now I use to have Att, and when my battery died on those phones, I still could send texts and make calls until the phone completely shut down.

Does this happen only with Sprint, is it the phone, or a CDMA thing? Sorry if this is a dumb question, just never had it happen before.

If your AT&T Pearl behaved differently then perhaps it IS a CDMA thing. My Verizon Blackberries I've had if the battery becomes so low that it turns the radio OFF then one cannot make calls or send texts because they are not accessing the network.

It is a related to CDMA. I had a BB 8330 whith Sprint a while back and if the battery got to low the phone function shuts off.

Weird, I was under the impression ALL blackberries did this. They shut down the radio to conserve the remaining battery, so at least you can still access info stored on the device a while longer. This is the first i've ever heard that a Blackberry on at&t didn't do the same thing. Is it perhaps the "newer" blackberries that do it, so its more of a generational thing?

Not crazy or dumb--

You will like this free app called "Force Radio On". Credit goes to Fabian for this one!

from your bb browser, click on the following link for this OTA download:

from now on you'll be able to use your phone down to the last drop! Hopefully you will only need it in emergencies--but who are we kidding?

🙂 Hope that helps!
